  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi everyone, I'm new here:wave:

I was just looking at the categories and thinking...

"I thought I was liberal and practiced a new way of looking at things" but if being liberal Adventist means not adhering to the 28 fundamentals then I guess I'm a traditionalist.

Anyone else struggling to fit into the catogories/descriptions of Traditional and Liberal?:)

Greetings,

I have always believed that "Traditional" gives the connotation of pre-1888, the law without mercy and grace. Perhaps I would consider myself "conservative."

Although, in politics, conservative means the "pro-war spirit," which is contrary to the Bible, and the evidence we have in our own history through various messengers.

blessings,
John

I consider myself conservative and have studied much into our history. I dont see a law w/o mercy and grace ever in our teacings, yet in the church today I do see mercy and grace w/o the law. Let us define ourselves as to what scripture says and use the spirit of prophecy to guide us into scriptural truth. Let us not be lead astray by the teachings of man. Adventist or not.

"Brethren, shall we not all of us leave our loads there? and when we leave this meeting, may it be with the truth burning in our souls like fire shut up in our bones. You will meet with those who will say, "You are too much excited over this matter. You are too much in earnest. You should not be reaching for the righteousness of Christ, and making so much of that. You should preach the law." As a people, we have preached the law until we are as dry as the hills of Gilboa that had neither dew nor rain. We must preach Christ in the law, and there will be sap and nourishment in the preaching that will be as food to the famishing flock of God. We must not trust in our own merits at all, but in the merits of Jesus of Nazareth. Our eyes must be anointed with eye-salve. We must draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to us, if we come in his own appointed way. O that you may go forth as the disciples did after the day of Pentecost, and then your testimony will have a living ring, and souls will be converted to God." {RH, March 11, 1890 par. 13}

You may want to read the Ellen G. White 1888 Study Material. She has more to say on that subject than the health message. She endoresed Waggoner and Jones over 370 times saying they had the message of righteousness by faith that will lighten up this world with the glory of God.
