  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

:prayer: First of all let me say, that it's good for you to know that about yourself, because it acknowledges your need for GOD's help.

I would suggest that when you see people around you with obvious needs, that you start there. Your prayers, may start out as short, quick prayers, but that will help you to get into the "habbit" of praying for others. Because we have so many needs ourselves sometimes it's hard to mustar up emotions for other people, BUT we have to press past our feelings, and emotions to consider others. Don't worry, you CAN do this!!!

Be blessed!

I can't and don't try to figure out God's math.

I find the more I pray for others, the more my own prayers are answered. Go figure.

And Conco's advise is great. Don't try to do a marathon. Walk around the block first. And soon enough you'll find it gets easier to run farther.

Welcome to CF.... Blessed be His Name..

When I saw the post heading.. I thought you might like this quote...

Intercessory prayer might be defined as loving our neighbor on our knees. -- Charles Brent

I will pray God gives you a burden to intercede for people and pray the barrier is removed!! What a wonderful prayer to pray for you this morning..

On a practical note...

Check with your pastor. Most churches have some form of prayer list with the needs of those in the congregation. Many churches also have a 'prayer chain' for emergency situations to notify everyone so they can pray when necessary. That way you can pray for those in your church as well.

And if they don't have one... maybe you can start one.

Yes my family is on the prayer chain. I'm trying to get a prayer group started on a weekday evening at church with the youth and anyone else who wants to (besides wednesday night).

I want an have a burden to pray for people and there needs but it seems as if there is such a barrier there. It is hard for me to pray for others. My prayers are very self-centered and I don't like that. How can I be a better pray-er.

Wow! Good for you!! Especially at your age........since I know with my 15 yr old, she rather sleep then pray!!! But,I am so glad to hear you desiring it.....and intercessory?....that is so neat.Just saying this, gives me joy,for you are humble, and I love to see this with the youth, probably because I taught it,and I have always enjoyed those that had a heart for the Lord when they could have gone some other direction because of influences. So just keep opening your mouth and let the Lord fill it, with your heart.....I dont know, but there shouldn't be any doubt that He wont Bless you in prayer.

When you sit (stand, kneel, walk, whatever) to pray, ask God who He'd like you to pray for. Especially when I feel burdened by circumstances, I'll sit down and say something like "ok Lord, I know I've already prayed about this stuff that's bugging me, so I leave it in Your capable hands and who needs prayer instead of me?" He usually has someone on His heart. ;)

Start off your prayer by asking the Lord to use you to interceed for the persons who need it. Ask the Lord to humble you daily and keep you focus. Then if you have a list of names that need prayer call each out to the Lord.

Make sure to set aside time to pray for others and then have a time to pray for your own needs. Sometimes I get wrapped up into my own problems too so I know where you coming from.

I'm new to intercessory prayer, but i'm asking the Lord to guide me.
