  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Great question
well if one is a mathematician by trade... would not doing math be considered work? Not much sweat being burned in mathematics, but I still think we all have "work" to be done in our lives.

This is where the Holy Spirit comes in for me. What is the work I do? What would it mean to rest from that work? Well right now I am unemployed so technically I don't "work" all week long... but I am a moderator here on CF. I consider that to be work so I try as best as I can not to do moderator actions on Shabbat. Cleaning my house is work. Planning meals or updating my resume is work... Those aren't physical, but they're still what I see as work in my life from which I am called to rest.

What about you, what's the work in your life?

Shabbat is much more than not doing physical & mental work. But it is a day that we should put aside all things that we would normality do, think, & say. It is a day when

G-d should be in the forefront of our life. At our dinner table we keep the conversation to the word, we read on Friday night the Torah portion and discuss it. Sat morning we go to service and in the after noon we read the Haftorah portion & just before Havdala we read from the second Testament. Shabbat is a day we are to give G-d our
undivided attention. :) Shalom

Yeah, it is the Lord's Day, let us be glad and rejoice in it. It is called stop dwelling on the thigs of the world and focus on your Creator and Redeemer. I agree with Torah, Give Him your undivided attention. Just trying to do that will reveal your spiritual state.

The L-RD wants us to call his Shabbat a delight, why? because it is a weekly date with him, not the quick hurried time that you give him a few minutes here and there during the busy other 6 days of your week.

He is your husband and wants good quality time with you, if you look forward to that too, and put aside what pleases you, this will make him happy, as long as this makes you happy to do so. If it is a burden to you, don't even bother.

:)

Hello,

I was wondering what you folks think about mental work on the Sabbath - doing Physics problems, reading philosophy textbooks, revising for exams. Is the Sabbath merely a cessation of physical work, or should we put down pen and paper too?

Blessings,

T7

I believe this is a good question!!:)

~I won't even THINK about w_rk or B_siness... It takes much effort though!!

~Thoughts come into my mind and I must dismiss them quickly... The Sabbath must be kept!!   ~If it feels like w_ork then it is... don't do it!! ~We have 6 days in which to w_rk... We must do it then and NOT on the Sabbath day!! ~The G_D of the HEBREWS is G_D!!

I dont believe ANY day is a good day to do such things.... makes my brain hurt!!
That's what I was thinking too GCG! ^_^

I agree with what everyone else has said~ if it's an every day thing for you, then take a break on Sabbath. Even brains need a day off to rest. ;)
