  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Integrity.

A man who has an amount of honor and integrity and positive values in him is who I would prefer to be my neighbor, not someone who is intelligent and is lacking of integrity; it is also the life I would like to lead, being that with integrity one can sleep better at life and be certain that one has done the right thing.

Plus, intelligence can even breed vices -- arrogance, pride. Integrity is never guilty of breeding a vice.

I have to say "Integrity". I know enough folks that have more IQ than I ever will but I wouldnt trust them with my wallet or take them at their word. integrity, honor (being honorable) and being known as one who keeps his word was what I was taught and raised up believing in and it aint failed me yet.

It's better for me if others have integrity, but it's also better for me if I have intelligence. Be honest when it is necessary, but be dishonest when it is advantageous. There are no benefits to integrity that cannot be garnered by simply lying to people and telling them you're honest, especially if you're good at it.

Like most people have stated, I chose integrity. If you don't have convictions and don't stand behind your decisions then it really doesn't do you any good to be the smartest person in the world. People want someone they can trust to not only make decisions, but to stand behind those decisions without wavering.

Intellegence... Strickly speaking integrity is subjective to moral and ethical codes. Where as intelligence by definition is the capacity to apply knowledge and thus is wisdom.

There is no point sticking to a moral or ethical code if it will achieve the worst outcome for everyone.

An intellegent person isn't going to change position if the cost outweighs the benefit because I'm assuming they will apply their knowledge about opportunity cost to any given situation and yes, generally we all know about opportunity cost.

Integrity can also be taught as well as enforced, you can not enforce intelligence (well not morally anyway, which is a different topic). Also the "really smart people are malladjustice" is a stereotype.

Integrity - Intellegence is no guarantee against self-interest. In fact the smarter they are the more harm one can do - or the more good, if they have integrity.

Selling out
is easy to do.
It's not so hard
to find a buyer for you.
When money talks,
you're under its spell.
Ah, but whaddya have when there's nothing left to sell?

Selling out (I'd rather call it compromise)
is easy to do (sometimes you have to close your eyes).
It's not so hard (being rich is no disgrace)
to find a buyer for you (put on your shoes and join the race).
When money talks (it has a very soothing voice)
you're under its spell (it's up to you to make the choice).
Ah, but whaddya have when there's nothing left to sell?
(Before you know it there'll be nothing left to sell.)
[Last two lines come simultaneously]

You can't always break the rules.
People who try are fools.
When you get older, maybe then you will see.
I've always found ideals
don't take the place of meals.
And that's how it is and how it will always be.

It's so nice to have integrity,
I'll tell you why.
If you really have integrity,
it means your price is very high.

So remember when you start to preach and moralize,
that we all are in the game, and brother its name is compromise.

Since I do not believe in the illusion of free will, integrity is not a virtue in my eyes as it is just the result of a persons genetic makeup and the environments he will find himself in during his/her life. Obviously, I have certain principles, but I realise that there is no separate spiritual entity of "me" that made an undetermined choice to attain them. Obviously, intelligence is also the result of a persons genetic makeup and the environments he will find himself into during his/her life. Yet, it is intelligence that allowed me to come to this conclusion. It is intelligence that allows me to rationally examine questions like these and come up with an answer. Therefore I choose intelligence over integrity.
