  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am very sensitive to wearing any type of metal, so instead of receiving the traditional engagement ring or wedding band, what other things can be done? I've thought about wearing a ring around my neck using a nice cord as a necklace, but it seems like that would be too easy to lose over the years. Is there anything besides jewelry that would do just as nicely for representing our commitment?

Have you thought about getting a titanium ring? It's completely neutral to the human body. Plus it's super strong and light. Might work for you...
Actually, Titanium might work. My dad always got me titanium glasses and the metal never bothered me.

I've tried up to 14K gold and I still have a reaction.

Ardeur,

My best friend was exactly the same as you - lucky thing always got 18K gold stuff off people as a result - oh I was jealous :D

For her engagement ring, it's an 18K gold band with a diamond, but she has a titanium band (all different colours - it's SOOO pretty) as her wedding ring, and has no problem.

Maybe this could help you - but if you don't feel like you want a ring for your engagment good on you for being original - and I'm sure you could find something else - maybe a tatoo saying 'I'm married' on your wrist - or a frangipani behind the appropriate ear (hawaiian tradition)!!! ;)

Good luck on your decision!

Sasch

i am very sensative to metals also, not as bad as you perhaps, but nearly everything gives all of my piercings reactions except stainless steel or titanium. man i miss those days when wearing plastic earrings worked!

as for wedding rings... yeah the tattoo thing is kinda neat. then again i'm a sucker for tats. I think I read a story on here from a member who got a car for her engagement instead of a ring. hehe.

a car! nice. that is far more practical for a newly married couple than a ring.

however, we buy rings because they are romantic, not because they are practical. :)
I don't personally view a wedding ring as romantic. Mind you, a tattoo, is a little more sexy than a diamond in my head!

I view a wedding ring as symbolic of the never-to-end love and commitment that I will make on my wedding day, and will continue to commit to everyday of my life. That is why I would choose to wear/paint one on my hand and hope that my SO will agree.
