Hi everybody, i'm trying to reconnect with my niece and nephew both of who are in their teens. Being that age, i would like to re connect with them and provide some spiritual influence for their daily lives. Is there any recommendations on what i could do with them. Obviously with their age i'm looking for something light hearted and fun. Any advice would help a lot. thank you.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is a little out of the box, but I just downloaded a daily bible verse program on my iphone and its absolutely wonderful! It sends you a daily bible quote to your phone and it allows you to save your favorites or email your friends and loved ones. Its very fun and light hearted so i think your teens would enjoy it. Plus it gives them some kind of spiritual influence. I love starting off my day with some sort of influence. unfortunately your niece or nephew has to have an iphone or itouch to download it. but if they do this is a great choice!

Hmmm, maybe take them to concerts of their favorite bands, start watching tv shows with them, or going with them to the mall and letting them lead you around. The first thing to do is to connect with them, build up a trust and a relationship with them so that they may see you as someone they can open up to and feel like you understand them.

As two others already said, just be yourself. And while you're at it, don't be afraid to be a little silly every now and then. I get to work with a lot of 12 and 13 year olds and it certainly has its ups and downs. But the main thing they look for is someone who is real and not trying to impress them.
