• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, I am wondering how people handle the insomnia that can be associated with intrusive thoughts in the middle of the night. This has sometimes been a terrible problem resulting in only a few hours of sleep. I tried a low dose of serequel but that caused racing heart. I have had to miss already starting to be too many days from work because of poor sleep. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I can't answer with certainty. I take it also, but don't have a racing heart like I used to. My cause of that was an apnea problem I had. In my sleep study, I had one episode that lasted 55 sec. without breathing. That was 15 years ago. I now use a bipap machine and also an oral device that keeps my lower jaw from collapsing to cause OSA (obstructive sleep apnea). My advice would be to check with a sleep doctor and get a test done.

Have you tried exercise? If your body is tired at bed your mind will usually follow. Also cut down on any caffeine at least four hours before bed. Beyond that try prayer. Nothing settles the mind down like a conversation with our creator.

I started working a graveyard shift about a year ago. Couple that with already having sleep apnea and being 48, it has wrecked havoc on my health.

Then to top it all off, I started getting bouts of insomnia about a month ago.

My problem was/is that I am tired and go to bed, but then I wake up an hour or two hours later and am fully awake and can't get back to sleep.

I tried Tylenol PM and some herbal sleep aids with limited success.

Then my ex-girlfriend gave me some supplement stuff she got in a starter pack for some multi-level marketing Amway type thing she signed up for (part of the reason she's my ex-girlfriend...).

It comes in a little packet and is a gel type substance that you squeeze into your mouth and swallow. First time I tried it, I slept for 12 hours straight.

Thinking it was a fluke because I was so tired, I tried it again. Both times, within 15 minutes of taking it, I was out like a light. I slept again for 10 hours solid. it's very potent. I use it very sparingly when I absolutely need to get A LOT of sleep.

It's called Sleep Micromyst by Microlife Nutritionals and Vasayo.
