It is not a punishment. We all have obstacles that we must work through in life, it shapes the way we look at each other and ourselves.

Have you sought medical attention? Treatment can be a tough road, but there are some things that might be able to help.

Sending lots of prayers and hope your way!

I have had severe insomnia for several months now. I am worried God is punishing me for something by giving me this insomnia. I'm not going to be able to hold down a job with it. Why is God punishing me with this?

Firstly, are you so sure it is God punishing you? Have you prayed to Him about it? Have you done your part in exercising good habbits? If there is bad habbits involved, pray that God might help you overcome any sinful habits and repent. (too much coffee, late night entertainment, etc.) If you think that you haven't done anything in particular to cause your insomnia, Pray to God and ask Him if there is something you can do differently, ask Him to help you get some sleep.

I know that I personally need to kick some habits, not saying that's your case, but hey, lets pray together that the Lord may help us get passed this problem.

Wow, you haven't slept for seven months?

Luckily I do not suffer from this infliction. I do remember watching a documentary about people who have not been able to sleep or seven years. They looked really miserable. I wouldn't mind dating a chick with insomnia, it can be cute.. the bags under the eyes, zombie like stare.. etc.

See a doctor.. he might be able to prescribe something to you..

First of all, God is not punishing you, I would not just assume He was. I mean we have a fallen nature, but just because something bad happens does not always mean God is punishing us in particular.

I was going to recommend melatonin as well. Its a chemical that your body produces naturally in the absence of blue light, and it helps regulate and induce sleep. I would take it when I was working third shift. Although I never really felt like it helped me fall asleep, it seemed like it helped me stay asleep during the daytime. Two mg is all you need.

I wouldn't look at that as a long term solution, however. Most of the things you can do are really simple, but they're things which people often neglect. Stick to a regular sleep schedule, don't consume caffeine after dinner, stay away from simple carbs and sugars late at night, make sure your bedroom is cool and dark, turn off your TV, ect. Sometimes turning on a fan to add some white noise to the room will also help.

And I agree with the others, I wouldn't automatically assume that its a punishment.

ALL of these things (I do the fan, too lol), and another very important one:

Regular rigorous exercise. Works wonders. Doesn't matter if it's the gym, long walks, yard work, whatever. Break a good sweat for a while pretty much every day.

I agree, go seek medical advice. Insomnia isn't something to mess around with plus it makes you feel terrible because of lack of sleep. I know when I stay up for All Night Study Sessions for end of semester exams I feel terrible for several days after that.

He isn't. He wants to give you rest.

Exercise might help, and getting sunshine in the mornings often helps your body understand what is day and what is night. A of people don't get enough regular sunshine in the winter time.

Also, try figuring out when you're most likely to be awake. Give yourself a crazy sleep schedule that leaves you awake then. For example, I'm usually tired until 10 or 11 o'clock at night, then my brain kicks into high gear until 2 AM. If I go to sleep before 10, I will wake up in the middle of the night to write things down. I can't do it now because of my family but this summer I'm planning to switch and sleep from 8-11 PM and then again from 2-8 PM. I wonder if that actually might work better for my brain!

Try living James 4:7. Submit to God resist the devil and they will flee. It’s oppression.
We have to fight the oppression.
Try looking up Christian help for Depression , Paster Pat Buckley. It helps and explains a lot of why we deal with things.
