• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have been suffereing from insomnia for a long time now.

As I post this it is 2:49am.

Basically I can't get to sleep even when I try.
I am going to see the doctor today but as I haven't been able to sleep all night I fear I may miss another day off school.

It is really annoying as people think that I am trying to keep off school when I am not. Teachers have said that if I don't appear for lessons I may not be entered for the exam and though those are encouragements to get sleep and arrive at school I still can't get to sleep.

I yawn yet I can't sleep. I have even gone round my room turning off everything that makes the slightest noise, even the electricity (that slight buzzing noise). All the lights as well but it still doesn't work.

I try to sleep but after a few seconds I feel refreshed again and get up.
I can sleep better when I am not tired.

I have done this a few times in the past weeks. Stayed awake trying to get to sleep then the clock passes 4am and I decide that it is better for me to stay awake than risk missing school. This results in me living off coffee throughout school and sleeping at every opportunity.

I sleep in lessons, on the bus, when playing piano.

I should really go to sleep now but I can't even though I am really tired.

i use to have 'Insomnia' ... atleast i would be up for days and days then crash. i saw a doc. it turned out to be another problem... but, i was told; even when you can't sleep, lay in bed with lights out etc., just like you are asleep. i did. i layed awake like that for several nights. buy i stayed rested and thoughtful. atleast is was a relaxed time and took away the awful up all night feelings. it also helped me get into a good sleep routine.

i'm sorry you didn't sleep. :(

i am mentally ill. the chemicals in my body speed up so fast that even my pupils dilate completely. that is what keeps me awake. i take meds for the chemical imbalance that cause my body chemicals to produce equeal amounts of it's self. it depends on me to set my body into a quiet restful sleep mode or awake and alert mode. so at the end of the day, even if i'm not tired, i must start slowing my brain. (easy to do with house asleep) i turn everything off and just lay there, eyes closed. it's a great time to be thoughtful. occassionally i fight restlessness, but i refuse to move unless i need to get more comfy. come morning i feel rested, even if i was awake.

i learned this from my doctor. she told me lots of people have so much stress that they do the same thing. there was a poster on the wall with an artical and key things to help people learn to sleep.
a good diet... going to bed and doing this rest/sleep thing. actuallt that's all i remember. but i bet your doc or library or even some websites have the same things.

 don't put it off finding some things to try! we want you ok!

I just want to say that I know exactly how you feel! For years, I have struggled with deep depression and sleeplessness. Although I still have depression, at least my sleep has leveled out. This is because I went to a doctor as well. He gave me a anti-depressant called "Trazodone". I don't really find it to be a good for depression, but it is for sleep. It makes me extremely relaxed, and it gives you confidence as you are lying there that you WILL get to sleep. I am not going to say that your case will be the same as mine, but ask your doctor about this amazing drug. It helped me, and it is safe.

I have had insomnia, I would drink alot of coffee to stay awake, then not sleep good, I cut down on the coffee and now I'm sleeping a little better, I understand it a vicious cycle of using stimulants in the day and not being able to sleep, then doing it over again, atleast that's my experience..

Dear ramesses,

I know insomnia is really frustrating to have. Have you tried to drink a warm drink or clear your mind from everything? That sometimes helps me when I can't sleep. Sometimes all I guess you can do is stay awake and let it run its course. As soon as you think you can sleep though, jump on it. That is the best bet. Best Wishes and I hope you get sweet dreams pretty soon. Lily00:angel:

(You are getting sleepy, very sleepy!!!!!!)
