  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you have/had trouble sleeping while pregnant, what did you to do help that is safe for unborn babies? I'm not pregnant yet (that I know of) but want to eliminate the one medication I take that is shown to harm unborn babies.

I'm not sure how bad your experience is, but something sweet mixed with hot milk (eg hot chocolate) is a natural sedative. It may help you to get to sleep at night, and the milk will only be good for a baby when you get pregnant. But, it's not all that strong a sedative, so it'll depend on how much you sturggle with this problem.

Thanks for the ideas so far. I tried Ambien in the past. It never really helped because the root of my problem is anxiety, so my doctor gave me a low dose of Xanax. Xanax works great, but is a Class D medication. :( I've also tried warm baths, eliminating caffeine, daily exercise, relaxation techniques (which help calm me, but don't help me sleep), lavender and ylang-ylang (don't like the smell of them  ), and Rescue Sleep without much success. Warm cocoa is a great idea :yum: , but it hasn't helped much either. I think a big part of the problem is my job, which doesn't allow me to have a regular sleep schedule. :sigh:

Someone else I know mentioned Calcium/Magnesium to me; I might try it. Benadryl works for me - maybe the "hang-over" effect will be worth a good night's sleep.

Any other ideas???

Try relaxing by writing in a journal. It really helps to put your anxieties on paper. I suffered from severe insomnia throughout my pregnancy and ever since I still have it from time to time. Mine was caused from anxiety too. The only true solution I have found was to keep a normal sleeping schedule (go to bed at the same time every night and wake up the same time every morning) and have something you do every night to relax you before bedtime. Also, not to worry if you don't fall asleep. I know that it's easier said than done but really try not to. Also, try to daydream when you go to sleep. Eventually you should doze off.

Benadryl never worked on me. Believe it or not.. it make me wide awake! In the last 3 months of my pregnancy though the doctor let me take ambien which always seemed to help.

I think the fact that I have a very erratic work/sleep schedule is actually the biggest problem. I went part-time this week so I can get into a regular sleep schedule. Hopefully this will help (especially if I get pregnant).
