For those who live there or have visited and are familar with the islands...plz help:bow:

It will be our 25th next yr and I'm hoping to have about $2k saved for a 5 night stay for April. We have never been out of the lower 48 and have only been on 2 real vacations (driving local) since we were married. I don't have a clue as to which isle let alone where on one to stay. We have AAA, costco membership and the union I belong to might have some deals. I'm a school bus driver and my wife runs a daycare at least 60 hrs a week. This will be a stretch for us so I have no room for error. We live in So CAl so that will help with airfare.

All suggestions welcome as well as links.

Hi pumanator!!

Oh this sounds like fun. I've been there twice. Both times on the island of Oahu. This is your typical 'tourist' island, with all the perks. All through the streets in town, there are pamphets that give you discount prices to restaurants, luaus, shows, etc. If you go with a tour group, you usually will end up spending more. So your best bet is to go it on your own. My husband and I, ( along with some friends ) rented a car to sightsee on our own, which was much nicer. But they also have public transportation that will take you anywhere you want to go .. cheap.

We stayed in one of the cheaper hotels off of Waikiki Beach. You don't need an expensive hotel, seeing as how you don't spend much time in your room anyhow. As soon as I can remember the name of it, I'll let you know. But for now, my mind is blank .. sorry. But you can look them up in your 'search', under "Hawaii".

The island of Maui .. you have to take a helicopter to get there, if you're staying on Oahu. Not as crowded as Oahu, but it's beautiful there.

This is just for starters .. when I can think of anything more, I'll let you know!! What a great way to spend your anniversary. Congratulations, and God bless you!!!!
