i've just started watching this anime, and my, it's awesome!
487 (did i get the number right?) students on board of a powerful vessel with no adult supervision. Most of the reviews out on the net refer it to the book "Lord of the flies". I haven't seen that book, but i don't need it to be drawn into this anime.
This certainly is an anime made to push the viewers into thinking. It is a perfect portrayal of all kinds of human emotions. What would people do to increase their chances of survival? they would value integrity and honour? this anime is about making hard choices. Fake love, betrayal, confusion, power, you name it.
the other thing unique about this anime is how quickly it switches from character to character. One moment it shows the students at the bridge discussing about the course to take, next it switches to the students operating the equipments, then it switches to the ladies at the cafeteria, and then jumps to some random individuals playing computer games. Despite this mode of view, i've no problem following it and i don't find it jarring at all. I think it's needed in order to show the larger picture of how each action affects the mass of people.
