  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, young lady. Could you please post the names of some artists in this genre that I might check out?

I'm not a geezer today, ah? Splendid.

Here are a few to add along with Terra's choices:

*cough*

KMFDM
Front 242
Front Line Assembly (though they might not be considered "dance" per se.... mmmm :scratches chin: )
Orgy (sorry, that's the name of the band!)

and for some reason, I can't think of any others right now.... Gah! You're interrupting my Superskinny Vs. Supersized!

Thank you, geezer. I didn't know Orgy was considered "dance-ish", but whatever. They're alright.

I've been listening to a lot of The Birthday Massacre lately. Not full on industrial as they have an 80's sound, but they are awesome. It's been a while since any good industrial has come out. Even NIN has been sucking it up with their past 4 cds. I'm anticipating Manson's new cd since Twiggy is back.

Twiggy Ramirez is back?? Did he/she leave? Hmm... I'm really out of touch, aren't I? I didn't even know that..

I'll have to check out the band you mentioned. Thanks!

Umm... I could have you mixed up with someone else, but were you the one who mentioned his love for Trent's side project? Or, was it technically a side project.... ?

Seconded on The Birthday Massacre. I need to get the Looking Glass EP - already have the other three albums. Extremely good stuff.

To go along with that, there's also The Last Dance, ThouShaltNot, Ego Likeness, The Crüxshadows, and L'ame Immortelle. All lie somewhere in that nexus between goth and industrial, leaning to one side or the other (although I'd class ThouShaltNot as more or less dark synthpop). I have to say that, as far as The Last Dance is concerned, the version of "Flesh" on Staring At The Sky is one of my all-time favorite songs. There's a remix of it on their latest (that I know of, anyway) album, but it doesn't seem to have the same impact the original does.

I guess I'm more rigid (anal-retented?) about my genres, though, as when I hear 'Industrial Dance' I think 'synonym for EBM' - Front 242 and Front Line Assembly would fit the bill, but KMFDM and Orgy really wouldn't. But since they were mentioned (as well as NIN), I've gotta toss in Stabbing Westward, Gravity Kills, Autumn's Descent, Helalyn Flowers, Flesh Field, Skinny Puppy, Econoline Crush, Julien-K (mostly because of it being connected to Orgy, but "Waking Up" and "Technical Difficulties" are awesome tracks), Under Midnight, and Spineshank, amongst others. Lately I've been hooked on Porcelain and the Tramps stuff (as of the last day or so, particularly "Gasoline"), too bad there's no CD yet.

[as a side note, The Last Dance (the Staring At The Sky version of "Flesh", amongst other earlier material), ThouShaltNot, Autumn's Descent, and Under Midnight can all be heard on ChristianIndustrial.net's streaming radio station; while I'm at it, I might as well also suggest The Awakening, Dead Artist Syndrome, and Aleixa]

Thanks, you 2... I've tried some of Massacre's stuff and it's pretty good!

Thank you. :)

I'm -clearly- not, at all. I just find it boring and pretentious. I'm glad that you were able to get a feel for what I'm looking for though! Even if my classification and the bands I mentioned were not exactly spot-on with yours. ;)

YES!!! "My Leftovers??"

Thanks for the Econoline Crush, Flowers, Field and Spineshank.. those are great reminders (sometimes, I get really farty with names). The others I either have or have never heard of. Willing to give it a try, regardless!

Thanks for the tip! I appreciate the time you took to answer my query.

"My Leftovers" was actually the first thing I'd heard from them - it was tacked over the credits of a compilation video I saw and I then proceeded to track it down. I tend to listen to "Redlight District", "Sugarcube", and "The Preyingmantis" more though.

is rammstein considered to play industrial music? i have seen them categorized under industrial before.
Generally, yeah (I've become less quick to call them such as the years have gone by, though), but moreso on their first two albums than some of the later stuff. If you wanna recognize Neue Deutsche Härte as a genre, then it would probably be placed under the Industrial Rock or Industrial Metal headings.

Halo in Reverse is pretty good. I personally think he sounds the way NIN should sound today. But he gets a big fat FAIL on originality. Still sounds good though.

Thank you. :) This is what I was referring to earlier in this thread. Phew, that was tiring. How many months did it take to get that out of you? lol I must be really poor at communicating. *urgh*

Thanks for the responses, peeps! Man, I turn my back for a second and I have more... yum, I'll have to try these bands though. Thanks!
