  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have only had one child and his birth was induced. So I don't have anything to compare it to except what people have told me. My labor was about 4 hours long so it was really short for a first birth. It was a really hard 4 hours though (no pain killers - my choice). You know, the feeling of joy when my son was born was so immense that the pain of childbirth was shoved aside pretty quickly (at least for a while). :)

One thing I remember people telling me when I was pregnant was that the day of birth is just one day (sometimes a little longer if you have a long labor) in the life of you and your child. I tried to keep that perspective and that helped control some of my fears and worries.

I hope all goes well for you and your baby.

It wasn't that bad at all.

I was induced, and I went from 1 to fully dialated in just a few hours. The contractions got strong (haven't a clue what they are like naturally). I did end up asking for an epidural, but that was more because she wasn't moving. I think that was what hurt more than the meds. I didn't get my epidural before going in for my c-section.

You're going to do great. If they want to induce you and you are scared, ask to sign the papers for the epidural before anything progresses (that way you don't have to sign when you are in labor).

My labor story is a bit of an oddity because there was a sudden rush of emergency c-sections from high risk pregnancies and the anesthetist was in the OR when I needed the drugs. I had a lot of pain, but her head was also stuck in a weird position that the doctors and midwife couldn't shift which they said was unusual. Basically, if you punch yourself in the same spot over and over, it gets more painful, even if you punch lighter and lighter. If she wold have moved, it wouldn't have hurt so much So all of those things put together made for a painful delivery. However, I would still do it again--so it couldn't have been that bad.

I hope that helps and not hurts. One thing that helped me was pump myself up as if I was going to run a marathon. Telling myself that I could conquer this was what helped me through it. I pushed like the dickens for 3 hours before I went in for my section. If I would have been afraid beforehand I think that it would have hurt even worse (like how shots don't hurt as badly if you tell yourself they don't hurt, but they kill if you psych yourself out).

Good luck to you llghoney! I look forward to talking with you once the baby is here! I've not been around much due to company and the baby, but once I start figuring everything out, I'll probably be here more!

It's not that bad, I was induced with my first... after my waters broke and not many contractions... It wasn't much worse than my second - which I put down more to not being able to move around as much - stuck to the induction process...

But I will say, try to give yourself as much time as possible before hand, the more 'ready' your body is, the less 'bad' an induction will be.

I've had both, and pitocin induced contractions Are harder than natural contractions. But, it's totally do-able to have a no meds labor/birth even with pitocin. Just make sure they don't turn it up too high, and don't let them talk you into anything. YOU are in charge, not the staff.

Hon why are you getting worried about being induced? You're not due until Friday, and you can safely go over 10ish days. Why the rush?

Because I wanted to be reassured it's not really that bad. And if I don't go into labor by the 22nd then I will be induced that day. My doc office makes you set a day.

Thanks everyone for the advice/reassurance. These last few days are nerve racking.

I was kinda glad for induction. I was a slllloooooowww laborer. While the pitocin did intesify things for me, it reminded me of how much shorter it was to the finish line.
This is when pitocin is Ok to use~ once you've already gone into labor. Pitocin to Start labor can be awful, depending on how ready your body is. If you're ready and the baby is ready~ it goes pretty fast and easy. If your body or baby aren't ready, it doesn't work well.

^^:D:p^_^ FOR REAL!!!!

Well, went to the doc I'm 80 % effaced so that is a good sign. I'm just praying now & going to try to stay busy & do the "tricks of the trade". :)

We had to set for a induced appt. at the hospital which is the 22nd at 3:00 a.m. But I'm hoping & praying that we don't have to go that route!
