  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So at what point do you believe it is okay to use "discernment"?
Possibly you mean that I might not need evidence in the case of Donald, and that I can use discernment.

As well as I can, I do, prayerfully. But I might not share what I am getting, publicly. This can be partly because I myself can be wrong and not know it.

And in talking about what the news is saying about things, I don't know who or what is reliable. And I suspect that people tend to believe whoever gives info supporting their view and candidate.

So, I have listened to what candidates have said, speaking for themselves. And I have not voted for someone who is ok with killing unborn people, and I have not voted for someone who could talk down on pretty much any and all people who do not support that person.

Romans 13 clearly says not to disrespect ones in authority; so I expect a candidate to be humble by not badmouthing and disrespecting people. And the archangel did not dare to bring railing accusations against even Satan. So, I understand I need to be careful about how I view and talk about anyone.

And I don't expect people of this world to do what is right. The Bible says not to trust in men. So, I pray for God to do what He pleases. He is succeeding in doing whatsoever He is committed to :) This is part of what we mean when we say Jesus is the Lord of all.

Then do you believe Trump? He's been caught on camera lying several times.
Well, I might not have been informed enough of facts to know about certain lies.

But he did make a project of saying Barack had no birth certificate, and this apparently turned out not to be true, and I do not know of Donald making a point of pointing out how he was wrong.

And he said thousands of Palestinians danced with joy on rooftops in New Jersey, after 9/11 . . . when the news had shown many in Palestine so celebrating. He did not openly and obviously publicly correct himself about this, that I know of.

And we have >

"No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier." (2 Timothy 2:4)

So, I understand my attention needs to first be to God and what He is doing. And I need to not tangle myself with trying to figure out what worldly people are doing. I might not be getting reliable stuff from any of the sources. When two have a disagreement, both can be wrong, in which case there is not way you can prove that either one is right ! :)

Oh gracious, those are just a couple of the abundance of lies Trump has told. The birther stuff about Obama was just especially nasty & dumb, tho a lot of his tales are.

Donald didn't merely say that thousands danced on the rooftops, he insisted that he saw it with his own eyes.
Politifact said:
"I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down," the Republican presidential candidate said at a Nov. 21 rally in Birmingham, Ala. "And I watched in Jersey City, N.J., where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering."

..."It was on television. I saw it," Trump said. "It was well covered at the time, George. Now, I know they don't like to talk about it, but it was well covered at the time. There were people over in New Jersey that were watching it, a heavy Arab population, that were cheering as the buildings came down. Not good."
