  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I will honestly let you know that I don't have any real ability to explain why God does what He does, but here is my attempt at some kind of reasoning.

Parents do this to their children a lot, heck, I know of a lot of young teens or pre-teens whose parents let them have a Myspace when they thought it was okay. Eventually they would decide that it wasn't okay and they didn't want their children to use it anymore. So, parents were punishing their children when they found out that they were going ahead and doing it.
Deciding that something is not alright anymore and setting forth a punishment for people still doing that action doesn't make someone horrible, so why is it okay to use that on God?
But there's no mention in the bible that God decided that incest would lead to birth defects. You're just trying to force a reason that explains the higher incidence of birth defects in children of incest thaat will fit in with what the bible says.

There was incest in the beginning - therefore God condones it.
There is a greater risk of birth defect - oh God must have decided no more incest and given this as punishment! Punishment for something he started - bit severe. He could have just grounded them or made them tidy their rooms!

You've just invented your own little theory to try to explain away God's attitude to incest, as nowhere is it mentioned that God gave out birth defects as punishment.

I think the way that you approach it is silly. On one hand you are asking for reasoning and then when someone gives you their opinion on the matter, you tell them that is just their trying to reason for God.

Thanks - I think the way you approach it all is silly too.

Wouldn't the honest answer be' I don't know'? You shouldn't need to make up excuses for your God.

God didn't have to change. He could have easily planned from the beginning to do that.

Also, you seem to be concerned with what people say, but what people say doesn't really matter. Personally I believe God is, whether or not it makes sense to you, changing and yet unchanging. I understand that a lot of God seems very paradoxical to especially atheists, but I think that God isn't meant to be fully understood by us now.

I always have problems with this because for me it is extremely difficult to discuss the complexities of God over the internet, so you'll have to please excuse me if some of the things I say don't necessarily make "sense".

This was something I said before. There is a reason why in most of my replies I try to say thinks like I think, or from what I understand, or even have said, I don't really know but...
