I believe the reason for not using incense in Protestant churches was originally done in protest to the Roman practice of using it in a ritualistic manor during the worship service. I don't see any reason why it couldn't be used in a non ritualistic way to add some kind of unique ambiance. Kind of like potpourri or some sort of air freshener.

Incense is very symbolic, most commonly of the prayers of the saints (Rev 5:8 & 8:3-4). 'Incense' is an interesting word study. I think its disuse was certainly a Protestant over-reaction to Catholic practice in the early days of the Reformation, which has never really been revisited in depth through most of the movement.

I enjoy it. The smell lingers on your clothing when you depart the assembly and you are reminded of the worship throughout the day.
