• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm glad he laughed, too.

There was this one time I was at a friend's house eating imported sausage-you know the kind, with the super thick, super greasy skin on it? This was when I was a teen. And I guess some people were smart enough to use a sawing action to cut theirs. Well, I'm the efficient one who just takes the knife and forces it down through the food, to the plate.

So that's what I did with my thick-skinned, greasy imported sausage. At least the part I held with my fork stayed put! As for the other... adios, sausy!

Ok, you had me rotflmbo at Imported sausage and then the flying sausy... I almost wet my pants cause I was lauging so hard.....

Well I don't really want to be immature :(

I'm usually depressed so my laughing isn't from being happy. Maybe that's why I laugh? I don't like being depressed so my mind brings up funny incidents to make me laugh?

I'll tell you from experience, Depression does some weird things to you.....It makes you cry, it makes you angry, it makes you jealous, sad, frustrated, overly happy (I don't think that's a word, but u get the point).....It's very possible that could be why you start laughing.....You said you are depressed usually....have you talked to anyone about that? Do you know why you are depressed, is there something going on in your life that has you depressed?

I really want to learn to control it but i cant! I cant read aloud in class or present or answer questions because i start cracking up for no reason! Sometimes, i even burst out in tears and laughter at the same time so people think im crazy! I dont know what is wrong with me but i will literally do ANYTHING to make this go away. Anyone know what to do?

Hi! I always laugh at the wrong reasons. The funniest joke would make me giggle....but seeing my teacher blow his nose would make me start cracking up to the point at which i cant stop! I really want to stop but i dont know how to control it. Also, when im nervous i start laughing. I had to do a presentation in front of class, and i started laughing to a point at which i had to go sit down!:o One day i was in the elevator with my sister and a stranger, and i couldnt stop laughing and they thought i was laughing at them:sigh: I really wasnt...i didnt know why i laughed. The most embarrasing story was when my family, I, and many other families went to my aunts for Thanksgiving and they asked me to say a toast. I started laughing so hard that i began to cry and i couldnt stop crying. I turned all red and tears just kept on falling!! I really would do ANYTHING to stop so please help...before i visit a psychiatrist next week :help: ...

Thanks

I found your post about inapproriate laughter because I googled that exact phrase due to the fact that I have this EXACT same problem! I feel it is a manifestation of social anxiety. It could be that your hyper- awareness that certain situations are highly inappropriate for laughing is causing you to do that very thing. Social anxiety, by definition, is an unreasonable fear of being judged negativly by others - particularly those in authority or strangers. You might want to contact a professional to see if this is in fact what you suffer from. Personally, I can totally relate to everything you experience and it can make life quite painful. I even avoid watching comedies or exposing myself to anything humorous if I know I'll have to face anyone in the near future because my mind will summon the one thing that struck me as funny and re-play it causing me to crack up at the worst possible time. I think it is all about anxiety (concious or un-concious) on some level.
