• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I really need help, I find myself laughing at really bad times or for no apparant reason, like during a job interview one of the interviewers had a rather bulbus nose, and I felt myself ready to burst into a fit of laughter. I'm a terrible person for laughing at these things, but I feel really guilty about it and I can't help it.

I used to really freak my friends out when I burst into laughter for no reason as well, it was kinda funny at first, people just thought I was weird but now I think it's something serious.

I'm supposed to be working part time as a sales assistant in a store and I'm afraid I'm going to to start laughing at customers. :(

Is there a mental problem associated with laughing at inappropriate times, is there medication I could take or something or am I just a horrible person? :help:
Hey at least your able to laugh, I never laugh, even if something is really really funny. Is it really that bad? People I know like to be around other people who are quick too laugh

It happened a lot to me a few years back, whenever I was nervous. Kind of like a pressure valve. And it cracked me up at the worst, worst, worst possible time. I'm almost afraid to tell you when, but I assure you there was no mirth in my laughter. In fact, It's so incredibly bad I don't think I can tell. Trust me, it beats the bulbous nose episode. Okay, okay, someone died and I couldn't handle it. So... :o

If that doesn't make you feel better, nothing can.

Oh I feel like laughing when someone tells me someone they know has died. It's not that I find people dying funny, I think it's because it's so serious it just makes me laugh, I'm not sure why though.

The only psychological disorder that I know of that this is a symptom of is schizophrenia. Just in case, I think it might be wise to look at some of the other symptoms associated with the disorder and see if you have any of those. If you do, then I think you should probably look into seeing a psychiatrist.

That said, I used to have trouble with that too. For me some of it was nervousness, some was immaturity, and some was just that I had very little love and compassion for others in my heart. There are times when I get the urge now and then to laugh when I shouldn't, but when I put myself in the person's shoes and/or think something positive about them etc... that urge lessens and often dissapates.

Yes, whenever I think of what it must be like to be that person the urge to laugh lessens.

Also, I forgot to mention this earlier, I've noticed that the more your not supposed to laugh and/or you try to stifle the laughter the stronger the desire to just crack up is.
Yes, that is also a huge probalem, when I try to stop myself from laughing it just gets worse.

bro, you've just finally reached the level of immaturity that we all wish we had........lol, just kidding.....I was like that once, but then my stupid job got me in a bad mood all the time....I can remember once walking into a grocery store and seeing my boss without a hat on and it was the first time I saw him without his hat on, he had really long hair, down longer than his shoulders except for the big bald spot on this head, oh man did it shine, lol....I was almost on the floor because I was laughing so hard and I couldn't stop laughing......

then there was this other time that I was at denny's (it's a restaurant if you don't have one where u'r at) with some people from a bible study and I could not stop laughing....and being i worked with chemicals in a chemical plant my friend told everyone that I work with nitrious oxide (laughing gas) and that sometimes I forget to wear my mask to keep the fume out, lol, he was so embarassed and so was I.....so everytime we would go to denny's after bible study I would sit down and everyone would stare at me waiting for me to "loose it".....

I believe that you are not alone, I look back at the times I laughed like that and I realized it was all nerves because I was nervous (except for the bald guy, lol, that was just hysterical)....You need to pray about it, talk to a friend about it, ask him to pray with you....share with him how things are going with you besides that...are you stressed, worried, struggling with sin.....people deal with different things differently and maybe if you talk to a friend (pick someone that you know you can talk to and trust to help you).....I know it helped me when I talked to my friend about the laughing spells and he encouraged me so that I wasn't as nervous around people.....

praying for you.....

There was this one time a friend of mine lost it because there was a houseguest, well in excess of 400 lbs., according to her report, and while that in itself was no laughing matter, the total and complete collapse of the kitchen chair as he sat in it, and the subsequent sprawling of the guest on the floor was more than she was able to contain.

I hate to say this, but I worked with a 400lb guy that collapsed a chair at work and I can remember laughing so hard, but the up side is that he laughed even more and he had to demonstrate to everyone, that was a day full of laughs, lol....not sure why, but I felt like sharing that, lol...

Good point-It's actaully kind of hip right now when you think about it. Look at all the best comedies! We've laughed at Tim Allen for launching a Tool Time grill into orbit. We laughed when Costello stepped on a board and it clobbered him on the kisser. We laughed at Moe, Curly Shemp, and the other guy.

That's a pretty good point, now that I think about it. :)

I'm glad he laughed, too.

There was this one time I was at a friend's house eating imported sausage-you know the kind, with the super thick, super greasy skin on it? This was when I was a teen. And I guess some people were smart enough to use a sawing action to cut theirs. Well, I'm the efficient one who just takes the knife and forces it down through the food, to the plate.

So that's what I did with my thick-skinned, greasy imported sausage. At least the part I held with my fork stayed put! As for the other... adios, sausy!

Well I don't really want to be immature :(

I'm usually depressed so my laughing isn't from being happy. Maybe that's why I laugh? I don't like being depressed so my mind brings up funny incidents to make me laugh?
