I'm currently in the navy. I go out to sea again in roughly a month. I would have joined the marines, but I couldn't pass the last part of the physical. My head was just too big for the jar.
ROFL!!! Glad to see the friendly rivalry is still alive and well... :D

If you ever want to drive a Marine completely nuts, have him try and march a squad of sailors around. It's rather like herding cats. We, of course, didn't march out-of-step on purpose...

I am a navy veteran of the cold war (we won). I was on a nuclear cruiser for 4 years, and in my field we effectively WERE at war a lot of the time we were underway. And being a nuc, we were underway a lot.

Now I'm fighting the VA medical establishment. Actually, it's not that bad. Not nearly as bad as it used to be. They are giving me expensive tests (CAT, MRI, etc) for free. Unfortunately they will not provide the medicine I need to control the pain. They have a bad history with addicted vets, so they take no chances.

It has been 20 years since I was discharged, but I'm sure some things never change. Perhaps I can give some advice or insight to someone.

Here's one piece of advice: Make copies of your medical records from time to time. I'm a Navy brat, and as such all of my medical records were in the hands of the Navy from the time that I was a child. If your medical activity is dormant for a couple of years, then they will send your record to the big record depository in St. Louis (not sure if they only have this policy for dependent records, or for the active duty person, too). If they have a record of exactly where in that massive warehouse that it is, then they can find if. If they don't have a proper paper trail, though, then you are out of luck. I went to get my medical records when I was trying to get into the Army (I'd indicated an asthma history, and I needed those records to prove that there were no incidences of asthma after age 12. Unfortunately, they didn't have them, and didn't know where they were. They assumed they must've gotten sent to the records depository, but we never did find them. I ended up not getting into the Army, but things have turned out well.

When I was discharged I got all my medical records (if they hadn't lost any) on microfilm. I don't know if that option is still available. Anyone on active duty should keep a personal log of everything, even the seemingly trivial or obvious. The supreme court just ruled that army personnel could not be discharged or disiplined for refusing vaccines, so I would look very carefully at all available information before making that decision. Remember that the military is notorious for experimenting on it's personnel, so you may not get the "vaccine" you are expecting. I just read on rense.com that french soldiers in desert storm did not take the free vaccines from America, and so did not suffer "gulf war syndrome.

If you all will forgive a newby from going off subject a little; The FDA has recently outlawed the use of mercury in children's vaccines. How many of you knew they were even using it?

Of course.

I've seen the contrast. I'm in the Naval Reserve and in 1994 we were turning over the Naval Reserve Center in Montgomery, AL (being closed as part of BRAC) to the Marine Reserves. The Navy marched out and in formation, in typical sailor fashion. While we were standing there, the Marines then marched out. This squid was IMPRESSED. They turned as one facing movement, you heard one heel click. And these were weekend warriors! So I got a huge kick out of your suggestion!:D :D
