  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In light of Matthew 7:13...

Matthew 7:13 "Go through the narrow door . The door is wide and the road is broad which leads to destruction. Many people are entering through it.

In light of the above verse, is the orthodoxy rule a tool of the devil?

To me "orthodoxy" refers to what the majority believe. Should this be the standard to ban people and close threads in light of the above verse?

What are your thoughts?

I have the same type of think as you do. If the "majority" think anyone thing about any particular subject, let alone theology, I try to stay clear. That's why I'm SDA. Most "Protestants" believe in the same paganism that has been handed down since the days od Nimrod. They have no idea what they are "protesting."

What defines broad and narrow? Are those who profess to be Christians in the minority when you look at the world view?

Just because a lot of people do something does not automatically make it wrong or right. It may make it popular, and we are not to follow some idea or practice because it is popular or the in thing to do these days.

I believe according to this this verse, we are not to blindly follow the crowd, but know what we believe and why we do whatever we do. If we don't do something it should be because it is the wrong thing to do, and should do what we do because it is right.

That's a good point but I always think of the Jews and how they were the religious majority in Jesus' day yet they crucified Him.

It seems to me that whenever I bring up the Trinity doctrine I get shut down. You can talk about anything else accept the Trinity. There is such a powerful force behind the Trinity doctrine. It's this same force that put to death millions of people during the dark ages because of their rejection of the Trinity doctrine. Even today people are persecuted for not believing in the Trinity God. They call you a cult and will have no fellowship with you. This causes me to think...:confused:

Millions of people were not put to death because of their rejection of the trinity doctrine! And even if some were anti trinitarian it still wasn't the reason they were put to death.

Just because something is accepted by the majority doesn't make it wrong. Thou shalt not kill is accepted by the majority, you can't go and say well that must be wrong because the majority believes it.

Annie also made a good point that depends on the group you are looking at too. If you look withing SDA the "majority" accept the sabbath, but in terms of Christianity the majority reject it.

As for Matt 7:13 the "majority" are not willing to do this
Mat 16:24Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

or this. Mar 8:35For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

Or this. Mat 6:33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;

That's why the majority are on the broad way.
