  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I think he has a responsibility to help out and help his younger family members have to tools to be successful in life. I don't believe you have a right to come between that without a marriage. As a single man he should help his nephew as often as needed which is up to his nephew and him. When he gets married you have a right to speak on that subject.

With you being newly in the family intruding in this before will cause resentment in the family towards you.

This is really part of my culture everyone in my family played a roll in my upbringing including my education, so I may be bias.

I wasn't going to go there, Avniel, but I was thinking the same thing. Heaven forbid I leave my child's needs to a school tutor program! If the classroom isn't sufficient, I doubt a tutor would be. I used to tutor, and unless things have changed, it's just an older kid or a college student working through the child's assignments with him/her. Every kid I tutored just needed a little practice and could have gotten the same help from their parents. I think it's great when parents try to do it themselves (or learn the concepts themselves so they can).

There is no "right answer" and that's why you won't get a simple consensus on the forum. Your need for attention is unique to you. Your fiancé's need to help is unique to him. And your picture of compromise is unique to you as a couple. All a forum can do is give you perspectives and ideas to consider for yourselves.

If you do that then he could be lost in the system unless he's in a private prep school. That's how things used to be done if you talk to most parents in the public school system particularly in urban areas it's almost like the parents have to teach the children. America ranks low as far as education is concerned our teachers are less equipped and under paid, in urban cities if the parents don't help it's a 50/50 chance that child will become lost in the system.

Possibly. I didn't really think of that because where I live the schools are great and that wouldn't be the case at all.

It just depends on where they are and the state of the schools there.
