  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm thankfull

:) I don't know where I would be right now if it wasn't for the Jehovah's Witness. Believe me, they are wonderful people and have taught me things I did not know. Thanks to them, I have been taught that there is only one almighty god in the universe.

My view of morality and ethics has changed completely. I have seen the truth in a whole new way. The teachings have tuaght me that sex before marrige is a sin in god's eyes and that he see everything around us. We can't hide the truth. We may hide it from our parent's, the day we smoked our first joint, or when we got drunk and made a lame exuse why we were 5 hours late past our curfew, or when you had unprotected sex and never told anyone, always in your mind if you were going to be the unprepared father of a child. We can hide from our boss all the lies we told about who REALLY took supplies from the inventory, or when we lied to our friends about who started the rumor. We sure can do that now. But nothing is past the holy eyes of our god. If it is not our family, co-workers or friends who don't see our sinfull ways, god will, and he will justify disipline and tailered to just you.

I also learned that god is imparcial to everyone. he is the ultimate judge in things, and just because you are going to sin thinking you will be forgiven, those people would have a rude awakening.

The teachings of the Jehovah's witness with the bible, has also taught me to respect my life that has been given to me. I now realize the importance of life and that god has a purpose for everyone. We are not destined. Destiny is for those who are afraid of choice.

I would not know where I would be right now. I may have been smoking my lungs out, or with AIDS, in jail, or probobly have myself killed by me or someone else.
The power of prayer really does work. The day I wanted to change my life and sincerely told god all my wishes from the bottom of my broken heart, I had been dedicated to him ever since. Thank you God for brinking those delightful people in my life. Some might think Jehovah's witnesses are bad, they really arn't. One can't judge before they actually are in with them. I am truly blessed with things I never knew I could accomplish. thank you! Thank you!
I would like to take the time for all thevievers who read this and to thank Christian Forums for giving me the privelage to send this to the world. God bless everyone, no matter what denomination or belief, you ladies and gents are truly precious to him. :prayer: :groupray:

I am thankful that I was able to actually do some research and find out what a load of rubbish JWs preach.

Leebal,

Whenever we have a group that reaches out to us, an essential need to be accepted and love is satisfied, which probably accounts for some of your enthusiasm about the Jehovah's Witnesses, but don't let that emotion cloud your judgement. You can find other groups who would embrace you, but without some of the serious theological errors and historical problems of the Jehovah's Witnesses. They have a shameful history and are little more than a modern sprouting of age-old heresies. To believe what they teach is serious error, which causes great spiritual harm.

Like the ancient Arians, Jehovah's Witnesses deny the Incarnation and deity of Christ. Instead the believe that before the beginning of the world, God created the Archangel Michael, who later came to earth in the form of Jesus, who despite moral perfection was only a man, not the Son of God.

They claim that the Church became satanic after adopting the doctrine of the Trinty, which they alledged only happened after Constantine the great legalized Christianity. They believe the Holy Spirit is merely the invisible energies of Jehovah (a bad translation of the word biblical name of God Yahweh--note to founder Charles Taze Russell, "The J's in Hebrew are pronounced as Y's, as in Yeshua.").

The Jehovah's Witnesses altered their Bible's meaning in The New World Translation to support their heterodox theology. They claimed they had scholars work on the translation, but refused to give the names of these alleged scholars. One important verse they altered was John 1:1. The correct translation states that "the Word was God" referring to Jesus clear divinity, but they altered it to say, "the Word was a god."

Even though the deny Jesus' divinity, they say He died for us, but not on a cross. Instead it was a stake in their version. They also believe Jesus returned in 1914, casting His angels and devils down to earth, the year the first World War began.

At the final resurrection they teach only 144,000 will be saved and will rule earth from heaven, while the righteous from the Old Testament will rise and establish kingdoms on earth. For 1000 years, all other men will be in a deathlike state with satan.

Aside from all these bizarre newly created teachings, which come, apparently, from the leadership's imagination, the founder Charles Taze Russell was a liar and hukster. In one scheme he was caught selling low grade wheat to his own followers for inflated prices, calling it "miracle wheat." In another incident he was caught lying about being able to read Greek when he was forced to admit it was a lie while under oath in a court case. He also denied his wife divorced him, which was a matter of clear public record, lied about published accounts of public speeches he claimed he gave before large groups of enthusiastic people, and that he was ordained to the ministry. He was far from a righteous man.

Source: Cultist at My Door: An Orthodox Examination of the Mormons and the Jehovah's Witnesses , by Fr. John W. Morris, Conciliar Press, 1996.

This is offered to hopefully counter anyone's interest in the Jehovah's Witnesses that may have occured due to your post, and hopefully, to begin to persuade you to look beyond the teachings your leadership has passed down to you. They may be sincere people, but they are also sincerely in error. I pray for them and you.

Basil

Well, I don't like to criticize anyone's choice of religion, although I was seriously abused by a babysitter as a child who defended her actions based upon her beliefs as a Jehovah's Witness, so I can't condone the religion. But, it's nice that you have found your niche in life and if it makes you happy and you don't harm other people, I hope you are happy. :)

JWs are some of my favorite cultists, I love it when those fruitcakes show up at my door. Last time they came they said the JWs would unite the religions of the world..and I laughed, and I laughed, and I laughed...and then I tried to deconvert them. Haven't been back since.

When I was a pagan, I asked if they wanted to come in and read my Ouija Board. :)

And the Nazis, KKK, and Inquisition used Christianity to justify thier actions, but that doesn't mean Christianity is founded upon murdering people.

I don't condone her actions, I think abuse is wrong, and I think trying to use a benign religion to justify it is wrong (though not as wrong as the abuse, but...).

Well, I never said that being a Jehovah's Witness condones abuse. But, there is something called Classical Conditioning which involves two stimuli being paired and the previously neutral stimuli afterwards causes a response that was originally unrelated to the stimuli.

For example, the religion was neutral, but it was paired with abuse which caused pain. So psychologically, the religion became a conditioned stimulus which elicited a conditioned response which then became resentment of the religion. I admit it's not the fault of the religion, but it's also not something that is always able for one to get over. Which is why I made the distinction that I am happy for the OP as long as they found happiness, regardless of my own personal feelings.

JWs are the product of a Millerite schism, along with the SDA. Doesn't it feel silly that your sect only dates back to the mid to late 1800's? Doesn't it feel silly that Miller failed twice to predict the end of the world and the schism was formalized after he died? I would feel silly.

However, the absolute worst product of Miller was the Branch Davidians. You might remember them. From Waco.

I am sorry, but i am not being brain washed by the Jehovah's witness. I am just saying that they are the one's starting me on my path to salvation. I know they don't bring eternal life, only god. I am just saying that without them boosting my confidence, I would have never opened my bible at all. I am happy, and that should be all that matters. But thanks for reading this post.
