• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I had anorexia last summer, and I thought I recovered. But I would ocassionally have relapses. Now, I've been binging a LOT lately, and I want to purge so badly!! I tried to do it for like ## minutes, and nothing came and I know it was wrong. I know, I know, I know I shouldn't have even tried. I don't WANT to have an eating disorder, but I feel so trapped! I'm still trying to figure out how to purge and that makes me feel desperate and alone.

Hey NoQuestion,

I'm a guy who suffered from an eating disorder, bulemia, for about three years. It's a tough thing to cope with but thankfully it's not impossible to overcome. It's good to see that you are dedicated in conquering this.

I'm in my fourth year of psychology and have come to realize how strong the roots of bulemia and anorexia are as a mental 'illness'. You will need therapy. Your therapist will talk you through this issues - mine did with me.

I would suggest that you get lots of prayer but also seek help from a trained psychologist.

My prayers are with you - you will overcome this.

GOD bless,

Stu :)

Also, one other thing that really helped me (through therapy) was to learn to truly be happy with myself - both emotionally and physically. Remember that no matter what you think you like, you are beautiful, especially in GOD'S eyes. Don't try to be what the world wants you to be. Avoid all of these models like 'Girlfriend', 'Vogue', et cetera. Don't let society tell you who to be or what to look like.

Keep me posted on how things go. You will overcome this.

Stu :)

Thank you, I really appreciate your advice. Right now my family can't afford any therapy, and my mom is dead set on me getting over this without it. She doesn't think I need a specialist, and that makes me want to prove to her that I really can do it on my own. Maybe that is irresponsible, but I think I can do this.

I had a really bad day today where I binged and purged, and I pretty much wanted to die this morning. But I got a hold of my mom (she is # hours away right now), and she told me to start thinking about my # younger siblings and how I need to be there for them. I don't think this is going to go away overnight though. I really appreciate what you said.

We aren't meant to walk though life on our own. We can ask for help. Asking for help doesn't mean you are weak or irresponsible or stupid. If anything it means your brave enough to admit you can't handle it on your own. Which takes more bravery than most realize.
