  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just try to remember that a due date is only an estimation. I think it's something like 5% of babies actually make their appearance on that day. I'm not looking at the statistics, but if I remember correctly (and I could be off a bit), about 70% of babies come after the expected date - and first pregnancies tend to be later than subsequent pregnancies.

I know it's so hard to be patient, but just try to remember that your body will know when the baby is ready and it will do it's thing.

Excellent post.

Also dilation is not an indicator of when you'll go into labor. Many women walk around for weeks dilated to 3, 4, 5 cm and others are not dilated at all and have their baby the next day. First time mothers especially don't usually dilate early. Your baby will come when she's ready and it's best for her to come when she's ready and not before. I know it's tough the last couple of weeks but she'll be here before you know it. No one is ever pregnant forever!

i dont think i'll have to worry about going past 40 weeks..women with preeclampsia aren't supposed to go past their due date because the condition only worsens and the only "cure" for it is delivery. my mom was 2 weeks past her due date with me and she had went to the doctor the day before i was born and hadn't started dialating yet, and had me the next day, so im hoping that i'll dialate quick like that....i just can't help but be impatient, i know she'll come when she's ready, but i really wish she'd come now that im ready:p

With my second child I went to the dr. a week after my due date and was still not dilated. The next morning I woke up with contractions and had him later that day. Remember you won't be pg forever, although it may feel like it at times. Keeping you in my prayers

i went back to the doctor friday and still no dialation, he said he'd see me tuesday and if there was still no dialation and everything else looked good and i didnt go into labor during the week then he'd see me friday and induce me. so i still have a few days to wait, but at least i know that hopefully by this time next week i'll have my baby...unless im in labor for days.

Be Very Careful in doing that. I am not trying to scare you but I was not dilated or effaced with my first child and they induced me. I was in labor for 3 days and not just light labor and I never dilated. They ended up having to do a C-section. Just be very careful and consider all your options. I know that every persons pregnancy and delivery is not the same but it was very difficult to go through what I did and I would not wish it on anyone. You will be in my prayers and I hope that you will just go into labor soon without having to be induced.

Again I hope I did not scare you.

my doctor told me that if he had to induce me that i may be in a labor for a few days, especially with this being my first, and he also told me that it also raised the risk of having to do a c-section. he wont let me go past friday without inducing me, so unless i go into labor on my own during the week, i have no other options.

You have the right to refuse induction. On Friday you won't have even reached the average length of a first pregnancy. Just make sure that you are informed of your choices and weigh the pros and cons as induction is definitely not something to be taken lightly.

In ALL of my reading so far, I'm learning it's the "norm" for a 1st pregnancy to complete it's 40th or 41st week of pregnancy. In subsequent pregnancies it's more common not to go into the 41st.

I am afraid of induced labor because I watched my friend go through more hours of pain than she did with her other pregnancies because of the petocin.

I know you are uncomfortable, but I'd ask the doctor when it's "necessary" to induce for yours and the baby's health, instead of when it's most regarded as "okay" to induce.

I'm sure all will be well!

I'll keep you and baby in my prayers!

Carina
