  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey guys. At my parish, all the new catechumens are dropping like flies. Now I know why everyone was so suspicious of me back before my confirmation. Not many people make it.:sigh:

So, just letting you know I'm still here. Figured we should do a headcount, see who's still with us and do damage control prayer style.

I thought it was an isolated incident, but then I logged on here, and oh boy! Look at all the people leaving. This is bad. Satan must be a busy man stirring up so many doubts. We need to stick together and stop this problem. :crossrc:

This is starting to go through my mind that people would be suspicious of me for not having a confirmation when I was younger and also afraid that people would be suspicious of me when I do return.

Agree, and just for the headcount. I am still here, though I am waiting untill I graduate from College before I go into RCIA in order to recive confirmation and first communion. Dang I feel disapointed that I have to play catch-up with the other cradle Catholics who recived their sacrament of initiation :sigh:.

Hmm, that's interesting. I wonder what's up with all the catechumens leaving.

I don't really know for sure but I think that Satan is really pounding people with doubts. I know he has really pounded me with doubting.

The evil one has been busy...be strong and persevere. All you catechumens who continue in the journey will be REALLY glad that you did...a few months from now you'll wonder what all the anguished hand-wringing was all about. It's all worth it...hang in there. I know from experience...having been a convert myself 7 years ago and teaching RCIA for 6 years. Sure...a certain number drop out...but the ones who don't drop out never regret it.

God's Peace,

NewMan

I'm glad I'm a cradle Catholic, because I don't think I would have the strength to make it otherwise...and for that, I admire YOU. Stay strong, many others on the same path have lost their way, but you have made it this far, and you will receive your reward in good time! :)

I am crossing off the weeks now until Easter, it has seemed a long time getting there, yet for us RCIA has been really short only 9 weeks....I have no idea what I would have been like for 9 months sitting week after week and not being able to receive the Eucharist.

There have been doubts, but not doubts about my decision to enter the Church, just doubts as to whether I am ready enough, I dont want to be a part time Catholic, I want to fully embrace all that the faith has and is. Pray for me that I will do this well. my desire is always to please my God.

Blessings

Les

I´m with us too!
I´m baptized before, in a Lutheran church, but I´ll get the confirmation at Easter night, when I convert!

catechumen

(Greek katechoumenos, one instructed) A name applied to one undergoing instruction preparatory to the reception of Baptism and admission into the Church.

Those already validly baptized are, I think, more properly referred to as "candidates."

ahhh cool. so i have to be one before i become catholic?

Normally, though not always. Sometimes, if one can demonstrate that, through personal study, one already knows the basic tenents of the faith, one can sometimes "skip" RCIA and be received into the Church. Though, I guess, "technically" anyway, one could still be considered a catechumen/candidate, until one is formally received into the Church, even if one isn't actually enrolled in RCIA.
