I apologize if this is not the right place for this.

I wanted some help with End Times theology. For most of my Christian walk, I've believed in the Left Behind type of theology. The tribulation is ahead of us and will be kicked off by the rapture of the church.

But all of a sudden I've been introduced to preterist theology and I don't know what to believe anymore. Could Daniel and even Revelations have warned about Nero being the fulfillment of being the little horn rising up as the Beast of the Sea? I heard he matches up with 666, he ended temple sacrifice after breaking a treaty with Jerusalem, and so much more.

I always heard that the best would be killed and brought back from the dead, which I just read the beast was Rome and after Nero killed himself, the empire was surely dead, but "came back to life" better than ever after Vespasian came to rule.

This is difficult for me because I have been waiting for the return of the Messiah. Is He not supposed to return after the tribulation? What have we been doing for the last 2,000 years if the tribulation happened so long ago? Was Nero the antichrist?

I don't know what to believe anymore! Please help me out if you have some answers for me (or even share good books and resources that can help me.) Thanks!

There's an entire sub forum dedicated to Eschatology. You should check it out because it has some crazy cool stuff! I have my own thoughts about the end times, but some of the research done by scholars and people here on the forums itself is incredible. Best of luck in finding your way. Regardless of where you eventually find yourself, a universal truth remains: Jesus will be back. :)

I am certainly holding onto that truth! I am open to moving in whatever direction is the truth. Thank you kindly!

Personally, I wouldn't be overly concerned with finding an Eschatological niche into which to place yourself. Investing one's self into some specific, definitive, systematic perspective of 'End Times' is to set ourselves up for disappointments and (unnecessary) confusion. It also sets us up to become false prophets of sorts, and I don't think any of us want to wade deeply into false expectations about the future, especially where our faith in Christ is concerned.

It's interesting that the prophets of old couldn't tell the difference between what eternity predicted and when the church age was being referred to. They couldn't see the valley between the 2 mountains. That may be true also of the millenium between the church age and eternity that all prophesy is clumped into. These are still things that the angels long to look into and that the church will reveal.

Ephesians 3:10-11
To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, according to the eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Matthew 13:16-17
But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

So if you found out that the whole rapture, 1000 year reign, dispensational thing, were untrue, would that mean your life was meaningless? Jesus is coming again to judge the living and the dead. Only God knows the time. It was not in your grandfather's time or your father's time. Maybe not in your time, or your grand children's time.

What 2PhiloVoid said in post#5 is quite useful.

While you could read this passage below as telling you something about sequence, it's really far more important to get the main messages it tells us -- things we really do need to know. Those main messages are what we need to hear and take in:

24 Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.

27 “The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’

28 “‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.

“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’

29 “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’” -- Matthew 13

So, here we learn we are not to try to decide who should be allowed to attend church. As in so many other places in the gospel, sinners are invited, and some may become "wheat"!. This is clearly an important lesson for today in many churches, where some think to become judgemental about some particular sin they guess about others doing....

Perhaps more importantly, we learn that a church is never going to be perfect in it's membership. Not in this age. It will in the age to come, but we aren't there yet. :)

So, when one reads in the bible seeking an answer to an esoteric question about the sequence of the end times, it's not the good way to read. Instead, we need to just be reading to hear all that is said, and trust that in time we will know the things we need to learn, because we are listening as we read.

Reading fully through each book, from chapter 1 through to the end, with listening.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. Eschatology is one of my favorite theological disciplines, but through all the theories and belief structures, it's most important to focus on the ultimate reign of Christ.

Our Bible has all the information we need about God's Plans for His Christian peoples.
The problem in understanding it is because many have chosen to believe wrong theories and outright fables. Preterism and the 'rapture to heaven' idea are 2 of them.

Here is a Biblical and logical sequence of the end times events. Coming soon!

Soon to happen: The great and terrible Day of the Lord’s vengeance and wrath, a massive explosion on the suns surface. Isaiah 30:26-28 & 30, Malachi 4:1 & 3 It will be the Sixth Seal event of cosmic and worldwide effects and the Middle East will be virtually depopulated, cleared and cleansed, Zephaniah 2:1-5, Ezekiel 30:1-5, Zephaniah 1:14-18

It will be the fulfilment of Psalms 83, Isaiah 2:12-21, 2 Peter 3:7, Revelation 6:12-17

A small Messianic Jewish remnant will survive in Jerusalem. Isaiah 6:11-13, Isaiah 29:1-4 Many will die around the world: Isaiah 51:6, Jeremiah 9:22, but most will survive and eventually re-establish some of the modern infrastructure.
The Seventh seal is ‘about’ a 15 to 20 year time gap until the Return of Jesus.

In a short while: Isaiah 29:17, all the holy Land will be regenerated and the Lord’s people, Christian Israelites, be they true descendants of Jacob or grafted in: all born again believers; will gather in the new country of Beulah. Isaiah 62:1-5, Isaiah 35:1-10, Romans 9:24-26, Revelation 7:1-14 They will live in peace and prosperity and 144,000 missionaries are selected from them, to go out to all peoples and proclaim the coming Kingdom of Jesus. Revelation 14:1-7, Isaiah 66:19, Matthew 24:14

The rest of the nations will form a One World Government, of 10 regions, led by ten Presidents. Daniel 7:24, Revelation 17:12 Before long, three will be taken over and the other seven will confer their power onto another strong leader.
Daniel 11:21, Revelation 13:1-8

After a few years: a Northern confederation, led by a person referred to as Gog, will be motivated to attack Beulah – an unprotected nation, of great wealth. Gog and his horde will be totally wiped out by the Lord and it will take seven years to bury them and clean the land. Ezekiel 38 & 39, Joel 2:20

A short time later, the strong leader of the World Government, will make a seven year treaty with Beulah. Daniel 9:27

This marks the commencement of the seventieth ‘week’ [seven years] of Daniel. There is a 3½ year period of calm and peace in the world, for the first half.

After that: the world dictator comes to Jerusalem in force and declares himself to be god in the new Temple. 2 Thessalonians 2:4 This starts the Great Tribulation; the Trumpet and Bowl judgements. The ‘Woman’, are the Christian people who refused to violate the Covenant, Daniel 11:32 Those who do are mentioned in: Isaiah 28:14-18 and in Daniel 11:32a
They are taken to a place of safety for 1260 days. Zechariah 14:2, Revelation 12:14

Then comes the Glorious Return of Jesus: The battle of Armageddon, Jesus destroys the army of the Anti-Christ by the Sword of His Word and chains up Satan. Revelation 19:11-21, Revelation 16:13-16
The gathering of every Christian Israelite of God, from every place on earth; all those who have kept faithful, to Jerusalem. Matthew 24:30-31, 1 Thessalonians 4:17

The 1000 year Millennium reign of King Jesus and the resurrected martyrs. Revelation 20:1-6, Zechariah 14:16-21

The final attack against Jesus in the holy Land and the armies are instantly cremated. Satan is cast into the lake of fire., Revelation 20:7-10

The Great White Throne judgement,. Daniel 7:9-10, Revelation 20:11-15

and a New Heaven and a New Earth. Revelation 21:1-8
Then Eternity; Revelation 7:15-17, Revelation 21:9-27, Revelation 22:1-5, Daniel 12:2

Actually, Nero wasn't the antichrist. Vespasian was. His son Titus was the false prophet, who caused the people to bow to the image of Vespasian. Titus even stood at the temple as his legions declared him imperator, the commander, standing in the place of Vespasian, the god of the legions, effectively declaring himself god. He killed with the sword, with hunger, with death, and with the beasts of the earth. Ironically, the son of god destroyed the Jewish temple ending Judaism forever. It's an interesting story.

Saucy, I went through this exact thing very recently. Once I heard the preterist view I spent probably 3 years studying and listening to sermons and talks. About a year ago I finally started claiming the title of postmillenialist. I'm still figuring things out, but it's been an amazing ride.

One of the greatest joys of it for me was realizing Jesus is reigning on His throne right now and that we are already in His earthly kingdom. I am jo longer waiting for that evasive kingdom of the future that appears to never be coming. It was jaw dropping when it clicked for me.

I wouldn't typically recommend him, but Doug Wilson has a book called When The Man Comes Around. It's a readable commentary on Revelation. I didn't agree with everything in it but it definitely helped me start sorting out what I believe.

If you listen to podcasts, Gary Demar is really good. If you go to the very beginning his show there are 3 episodes on Matthew 24. Super helpful.

And honestly Matthew 24 is probably the best place to start. It's kind of the key to everything.

Heard this but to GOD 1000 years are not 1000y. 1000y can also be one day. So we must also know it has been only a tad over 2 days now. See every generation believed they were the last one before Christ comes. We think the same thing yet no other generation seen Israel that was not a nation yet the word told us it was. We see it happen as its written become a nation in a day. Then the word talks about He that hold back the lawless one. Only when He is taken out of the way then and only then can the lawless one come out in the open and do lying wonders.. things we would believe only a God can do. This lawless one does not believe in God or his fathers or any god for he will say he is god. Something that has never happen in history. Can't happen since we are still here.

Hello.. since when can GOD give power/authority over Himself? Is God not in those that believe in Him? Is Christ not in us is not the sweeet sweet holy Spirit (luke 11 13) given to us in us forever? So the Church has been given since HE is in us all power/authority over the enemy. This is why we don't see any lying wonders like there was in the OT. Hello JESUS! its only when He is taken out of they way does the lawless one come out in the open and Muslims and Jews will think the Messiah has come.

Then the beast. When in history did this happen again where the beast comes to life and tells the world to worship it or die. Then and only after that the beast make again the WORLD take its mark which as its written 600,60,6. This is something that could not happen in any other age then the one we live in. Were we today also see what Christ said about birth pains. All through time earthquakes storms floods have happened. But today we see all happening at once. The worlds explanation is? Yes climate change. No matter what man does what Christ said will happen will happen.

Caught up will happen when I don't know pre mid post.. I don't know. I was not promised tomorrow so for me I am watching ready now. For me its only been about 2 days so.. when Christ in Rev said I come quickly.. He is coming. He made a home for us in His Fathers house ..where He is now. So He will come back for us to "where" He is we will be. Where He went we know and how. He can not lie. That has not happened..yet.

My recommendation is to write down preterist beliefs in one column, and in the parallel column futurists beliefs. add more columns if necessary. Look at each school of thought for its merit, and as a parallel means of understanding the eschatological texts. feel free to do the same thing with the whole bible, not just the end times texts.

Sometimes it is necessary to arrive at "no conclusion" and consider the possibilities.

Here are some good books that can help you. Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, 1st Corinthians, 1st and 2nd Thessalonians, 2nd Peter and Revelation. Start there. Do what the Bereans did and study this for yourself (Acts 17:10-11) while praying for wisdom (James 1:5-7) and see what happens.

You'll need to take the reighs and do some in depth research without theological lenses obstructing your way. Ask the Lord to give you the truth.
Blessings.

I've been on the same journey myself although I've never been one holding to Pre-Trib Rapture for years. I believe more of what's called Pre-Wrath different then Pre-Trib in which the rapture happens in Rev 7. I have listened to the Partial Preterist teachings and it could be said they make some good points, Jerusalem surrounded with armies etc but the Bible even said about that tribulation there won't be anything like it again that is to the Jews. Well just not true. Jews were killed by being rounded up in the holocaust so how does one work in it will never happen in such a magnitude again if 70AD was what it was talking about. Also SOME THINGS in revelation....I just can't buy the line certain things happened in 70 AD. I/3 of population destroyed, wormwood and the list can go on and on.
