I wasn't sure what I would call this post, or what I would say, other than I'm sorry for coming off as being a bigot, and hateful. It truly wasn't my intention. Certainly talking about gay marriage, and debating whether someone can change their sexual orientation brings out a lot of hate, and underlying hate, and I'm not proud of it.

If you talked to any of my gay friends they would tell you that I'm very loving, and excepting of who they are, otherwise why would they be my friend? I have changed my mind a bit on the subject of gay marriage in that I wouldn't want the government to tell me what I can and can't do, and I shouldn't wish that on others, even if I don't agree with their lifestyle. It does tick me off how the government in one breath wants to ban gay marriage, and in the other wants to ban the ten commandments from being in federal buildings, or wants to tell people what they can do and say about their religion in their work or school.

I have over the years developed the opinion some people are born gay, and even if they choose to abstain from homosexual sex they are still have the thoughts and feelings of being gay.

However I do believe that some homosexuals view their lifestyles as sinful, and it really shouldn't be my concern if they believe that or not, but I should support them if it is their wish to change. Who are we to tell a homosexual that it is wrong for him not to want to be a homosexual.

Homosexuality and gay marriage are heated topics and it's easy for people to lump everyon in the 'with us or agaisnt us catagory'. The truth is ,as always that there is a very broad spectrum.
There will always be people who demonize people who disagree with them, regardless of the camp they're in.

Bigotry as I see it is typically stubborn and unmoved by reason. You're attitude appears quite reasonable and open to discussion and it's a shame you were cast upon for the sake of your opinions.

People often loose sight of the fact that a culture supporting free speech means that you will be faced with opinions you don't agree with, perhaps even find offensive.

While I think the word 'choose' is a misnomoner, I personally think that homosexuality (and hetrosexuality) are is a result of both biology and upbringing at that sexual attraction is a continuum rather than an either/or switch.
I never made a conscious choice to find redheads attractive. Or women for that matter. They just were. I imagine it is the same for gay people.

In respect to gay people who don't want to be gay, I can understand where you're coming from. However almost all evidence shows that orientation cannot be changed and is usually harmful to try.
There are possibly blakc people who don't want to be black, or white people who don't want to be white. But if the desire to change is scintifcally and culturally untennable then it is foolish to try and better to support them in what they already have.
