Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Well, everybody knows it is a Catholic film because it's based on the Catholic Bible, which has extra books (which were, of course, added to justify worshipping Mary), and which lay people aren't allowed to read by order of the Pope.

I'm kidding. You guys are great, and I'm sorry people spew such hatred at you. I'm just glad they have no idea about Orthodoxy, or we would surely be next. I can hear it now...."harlot of Byzantium" and "Painting-worshippers"

Do the Orthodox use the same "extra" books, incidently? Just curious, and by the way, that was pretty funny. I was getting mad again LOL

I went to P/R/E just to simply discuss the Passion and I never once started any type of Catholic debate or anything even close to that, I simply shared my experience with the movie. It was my understanding that I was allowed to post in fellowship threads. This guy ATTACKED me and Catholisism and for NO reason! He is ranting and raving that because the Passion is a "Catholic" movie I am not allowed to discuss it there because I am a Catholic!

Has this ever happened to anyone else here? I can't believe the way this guy came at me out of the blue and accused me of breaking rules and everything else!

Sorry I needed to vent with my fellow CATHOLICS!!!!
If it's who I think it is, I've already reported posts by him a few days ago when he was stating his opinion about the Passion and accusing another poster of being influenced by the devil for wanting to see the movie.

On a side note: I lurk over in PRE on occasion and have found there to be little to no moderating. I don't know what's going on over there, but they don't follow their rules or the rules of CF. I'm not speaking of the majority of posters, but a relatively few. Once again, it seems that Catholics are held to a higher standard in their own room by their own mods.

Actually our mods are pretty strict when they are around. It's just that they aren't there that often.

Whats interesting is that Protestants are allowed to debate other Protestants, but if a Catholic debates its off limits - and this applies to a Catholic promoting a viewpoint held by Protestants. For instance, if I were to support Luther's belief in Mary's perpetual virginity, I would be warned for breaking the rules. But two Protestants can debate the topic endlessly. Where's the logic?

Also a predestination thing. Two Protestants, can debate this but we can’t. I can see not bringing the Church’s teachings in there condemning one side as a heresy but we can’t argue the biblical evidence? A comment was once made that it is bad enough that one side has to defend this to other Protestants, they shouldn’t have to defend this to Catholics. I wonder what was meant by that?

From what I can tell the gripe is this is a Roman Catholic Latin Rite film so it automatically is anti gospel because it was done in the Roman Catholic Latin Rite perspective.

I didn’t know there was a Roman Catholic Latin Rite way to hammer nails through some one’s hands.
The Code of Canon Law covers everything!! ;)

Seriously, if someone is attacking Catholicism anywhere on the board, as opposed to expressing a nuanced view of why they disagree with Catholic teachings (presuming they even understand them), report the post. The venomous attacking of another poster or a Christian faith tradition -- any tradition -- is contrary to the Rules of CF. And if you aren't happy with the Moderator's response, go to the Senior Mod. or the Administrator who supervises him/her.

(And I believe it's within the rules, if someone is sniping at a misunderstanding of Catholicism -- e.g., "You worship Mary" -- to say something like "We're not permitted to debate in this forum, but you misunderstand what Catholic doctrine on ___ is. If you're willing, come over to OBOB and we'll be glad to explain what we really believe.")

I think it has to do with not having to fight a battle on two fronts. It is easier to debate one camp then two. If Catholics were allowed to debate any issue they agree with, then it would be overwhelming for Protestants who disagree with any particular issue Catholicism holds.

Just as OBOB should be safe from anti-Catholics, PRE should be safe from anti-Protestants.

Like our Catholic brothers and sisters we need a safe area free from the Catholic vs Protestant fighting.

Edited to seperate thoughts.

Anti Protestants? What are you talking about? If a Catholic debates the same exact points as a non Catholic in a thread, they are anti Protestant??

No, but allowing Catholics to debate in PRE will invite those who are anti-Protestant in as well.
