  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm really rethinking my habits

Hi there everyone, I have recently watched a Christian movie "Power of the Air" and wondered if anyone here has?

If you haven't I really recommend it and would love it if there could be a discussion as to how or whether it has made you reassess things.

It has given me so much to think about regarding the things of God versus the media and its huge influence and I am going to make some changes in my life.

I know there is a forum for movies/entertainment but I thought more people would see it here.:)

Its a really good film, its basically about a Christian who goes to talk by an African Christian who turns his world upside down by a book he wrote The Most powerful church in America.
He questions the influence of media on Christians who are being entertained all week by things they would never allow in Church blasphemy in a movie etc .

I have to say it was one of best Christian films I have seen basically because I found it challenged my thinking, you see without going into personal details of my circumstances, I have found that I have recently had TV on for instance way more than I ever did mainly as distraction or to just to "chill out" and you know the old frog in the boiling water scenario.
Its all about for me being in the world and not of the world and drawing the line firmly.

It is not just about that it also is about reaching out to people with the gospel where we are rather than always thinking of missions overseas when all around are people who have never heard the gospel.

I've probably made a hash of explaining it all but Id recommend it for anyone to watch.

You won't see the Hollywood media machine pushing this movie because it cuts right to the chase about how the enemy uses Hollywood to deceive people. Satan, the prince of the power of the air, is now "the ruler of this world", and deceptive in manipulating, deceiving, and tricking vast numbers of people through the media. Look no further than the industries and institutions of entertainment, music, fashion, education, academia, corporate, and government; where the worldly grips of Satan are pervasive. LORD, have mercy.

Ephesians 2:1-2 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.

Prayer for the Disciples

John 17:15-17 I am not praying that You take them out of the world but that You protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth.

I agree and was chided for my refusal to indulge the media and about the things I’ve removed from my life. I think its poisonous and provides a continuous stream of negativity that affects the mind and spirit. I can’t imagine how the house stays clean if you douse it with mud.

I use Roku and subscribe to Philo. We look at travel, food, and home decorating programs. I watch historical reproductions of classic books. These are popular on PBS and BBC. I tried Netflix but the themes gave me pause and I let it go.

I like classical, opera and jazz most. I cannot listen to others often. They impact my spirit and I had to stop posting on the music thread for that reason. I also enjoy the theater. I’m an avid reader and devour non-fiction, classics, cozy mysteries and Christian Amish fiction. Novels of manners are my favorite.

The standard that was imparted to me was wholesomeness and He impressed the necessity of good behavior and ladyship. I can’t positively impact others if I’m immersing myself in the same garbage.

We must exemplify our faith in word and deed. I’m happy to hear you’ve seen the light. You’ll experience greater peace and joy as a result.

Thank you both for your replies.
If we think we have no dependency on media, it is interesting to give up all ( internet, TV, phones- other than for needful purpose) even for a day or two and you will see the hold it has in our life.
