• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I have a lot of struggles with obsessive thinking and anxiety. Lately I've been better since I started medications once again.

I can get my mind into a loop on just about anything, usually I only notice it when the obsessions are worries or bad things. I'm a pretty severe hypochondriac as well.

I've been doing a lot more prayer lately and I think that helps. I try to release my worries and anxieties to a higher power for sometimes they're just too much for me to handle on my own. It helps.

Anyone else have any other good ideas for combating obsessions?

I find it hard to be distracted enough to get out of my head, even when it's a complicated task, I can still complete the task while not even really thinking about what I'm doing, still stuck in my head, obsessing and obsessing.

Hey Bribarian,

I'm glad that you've been praying. Like my pastor says, just a little talk with Jesus will make it alright. Continue in prayer and talk to the Lord with sincerity. He hears His chidlren's prayers. Especially when they seek Him will all their heart.

I know it may be hard, as it was for me, when thoughts would come but sometimes you just have to let them run through your mind. As many will tell you on here, trying to fight it and analyze every single one will keep your mind jumbled and distract you from life. It's hard at first, because you just simply want to battle them yourself and get rid of them, but like I once posted on here, try to see them as pillow sheeted cut out ghosts. They represent something frightening but they have no weight. And dont be so down on yourself, as I was extremely, if you feel weak and afraid. Because the Lord is with us always. John 14: 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. He is our strength and our refuge. Remember His promises and the love and mercy He had on those suffering from unwanted illnesses. He will have the same for us. Praying for you and hope you had a good day today =]. And remember, we can always go to Him with our problems. Mathew 11: 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
