  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm One of YOU now.

"Why was I made to hear His voice
And enter while there's room?
While others make a wretched choice,
And rather starve than come.
'Twas the same love that spread the feast,
Which sweetly forced me in;
Else I had still refused to taste,
And perished in my sin."

No one should called themselives calvinist, baptist, catholic and so on. It's a disgrace to our Creator. I mean you don't see believers in the bible quoting saying I"m a mosaicnism (moses), I'm of isaiah the prophet, jeremiah and so on. We should called our doctrine, the doctrine of God/Gospel of Christ because they are scriptural.

yes we know that , you are missing the point , in debates etc clarity helps , so when one sees Calvinist or Catholic or Orthodox one knows straight away where the other person is coming from .........

and the name Christian was not given by God to the Church it was a nickname (like Puritan) !

The early church were called Elect brother or Elect sister.

Actually to a calvinist it means the same as 'biblical', or Truth without compromise! It declares that all we believe honors God, the message is about Him, what He did, does, will do! If someone tells me they're calvinist I know right off that their intent is to honor God in all they do, all they believe! It declares them to believe Sola Scriptura, sola gratia, sola fide, sola Christus, sola deo gloria!
What are your beliefs? How can we be of help?

Brothers and Sisters,

After prayerful consideration I requested to have my religious affiliation icon changed from the generic Christian to Calvinist. It took me a while but I couldn't fight it any more!

Good to be among you.

Peace,
FOTM

Glad to hear that you've embraced the doctrines of grace! I think you'll find that the Bible now makes a lot more sense (not that the words have changed, but you now have discarded human logic).

James, you are living a dream that will not exist until after Jesus' return. It's sounds great, but it's just not possible in a fallen world.

I may be wrong here, but I just don't think anyone here goes around outside of CF and says to some one off hand, oh I'm a CALVINIST btw. (cue pretentious voice here). I think we all claim simply to be christian.

I know that when I am discussing religion with people outside of here, the word calvinism doesn't ever come up, unless I'm among mature believers and we happen to be discussing soteriology or something. (which has actually only happened once, among family)

HOWEVER, in the context of Christian forums, sometimes it's much much easier to put up by your name your particular belief system within christianity so that others will have a general idea of how you think and respond to different things here at CF. If we were all to put just christian down and try to move here and there within CF, there would be lots and lots of confusion.

And honestly, the division that happens in here would happen whether we display the "name" of our particular denomination or belief system by our names, or not.

Please, try to understand we put the icon by our names, not to divide, but to clarify, which, IMHO, is a big difference.

In christ

Amen!

And thank you all for the warmest of welcomes!

Welcome, FOTM!

It took me some time to decide to change my icon also. I was a bit worried that by displaying it, I would seem a bit "proud" or divisive, but I've come to see that it really does help in disussions with other people to have the icons up there, so one can see "where the other's coming from" so to speak.
