• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Bipolar is mood disorder and not just a good mood or a bad mood, but rather or severe depression or feeling on top of the world in a manic/crazy kind of way.

Some of the symptoms of bipolar are;
Feeling worthless or hopeless
Spending too much money or make other reckless decisions.
Rapid shifting from sadness to rage
Extremely short attention span.
thinking about death or suicide all the time
Loss of energy feeling very tired.
An excessively high or happy mood.
Overwhelming feelings of sadness.
Loss of concentration
No interest in hobbies or work
Sleeping more in the depressed state and less or not at all in the manic phase
Talkativeness (Very fast talking as well)
Racing thoughts.

I'm sure there are more but I can't think of any at the moment. Also for each person the symptoms very as does the intensity.

As you can see we bipolar people do not suffer from a split personality that falls into a complete different catagory.

Hope this is helpful.

Christian greetings

Gerry

I think you're asking about MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder) when you speak of splitting personalities, not bipolar. They're two totally different diagnosis. Bipolar is genetic and biochemical. MPD as I understand it is a compensatory personality split resulting from severe childhood emotional trauma.

To answer what it's like to be bipolar - there are different levels of severity. Some people never go into the really top-of-the-world manic state and are mostly depressed. Some are mostly manic with a few episodes of depression. Some are what's called Bipolar II or Soft Bipolar and experience the highs as more of a mixed state - feel too revved up to gear down and rest, but are irritable and depressed at the same time.

jeshu pointed an excellent summary of bipolar. but what's it like to be bipolar? that's an excellent question because a friend of mine pointed out that a list of symptoms isn't the same as a recounting of the experience. here's a bit of mine:

as i walked down the hill that lead to my apartment, the light was growing dim and the snowflakes were falling gently. suddenly, i looked up at an angle and saw the shimmer and sparkle. it was beautiful. God was so there. i ran home, burst through the door with my news: i learned what it means to be a Christian, i have all these theories. but all as i say my ideas i just hear my mom yelling at me, "NO!" chagrined, i felt like i was in a different dimension from my parents. my mother became infantile in my eyes and i could relate to my step father. it was like i discovered the code behind this reality like i discovered the code behind this internet — and if i was really silent and stopped feeling frustrated, i could hear angels singing.
