Okay, maybe that's a slight exaggeration. But all my friends watch all these TV shows & stuff, but my parents don't want me to watch, like, any. I have to stick to the shows on ABC kids! And it's kinda annoying. I know they're trying to do the best for me and everything, and I know TV is getting really bad these days. Are there any TV shows that are really child friendly & also good so I can watch them?? thanks

Jaydie, I'm glad that your parents are showing such wisdom in monitoring what you watch.

The Bible speaks of the importance of guarding our heart.

It shows that your parents really care about you. A lot of parents these days don't bother to caution their children about what to watch which is very sad.

Perhaps your parents would allow you to watch 7th Heaven.

It would depend on what age you are.

My sons are 15 and 17 and still watch Jimmy Neutron. :)

My mom had a boyfriend from when I was 6 until I was 13-14 and I wasn't allowed watching Disney movies, and I wasn't allowed to be a kid. So I've always watched stuff older... was watching South Park when I was 11 and loved it.

They sound a little to over-protective. At 18 I'd start watching stuff that you want to watch. (well, not bad stuff like Sex and the City or something :p)

Well, now that depends on a few things. If an 18 year old still lives with his/her parents then the parents spiritual wishes should be respected.

You get ABC in Australia? I guess I never thought your country got our stuff. I always thought you had your own broadcasting system! I think your folks have the right hand and thumbs up.Too many young people watching whatever they choose.

I grew up on such shows as Growing Pains, Mr. Belvedere, and Family Ties.... but I guess to most teenagers today they're considered "moldy oldies"!

Have you heard of a channel called I (Independant Television)? It used to be called PAX. I don't know if you get that channel in Australia. There is a lot of fun programming geared for all ages on that channel. If you pick this station up, check it out. Of course, it would have to be okay with your parents.

As many have pointed out, be glad you have parents that are monitoring what you take in. They only have your well-being in mind, and they want you to grow up to be the best you can be.

First of all...I'm almost 24 and I LOVE cartoons! I also grew up watching the likes of Growing Pains, Family Ties, Full House, etc. I would be able to watch television with my parents, and my mom was/is a huge fan of mystery-muder mystery shows and movies. So I'd see shows that were a little ummm...yeah for my taste.

I was such a freaking naive innocent child...I would've picked Sesame Street or Mister Rogers over any prime time sitcom or drama any day of the week. In a way I'm still like that. :p I've noticed that television has gone very much downill since I've been alive, so your parents rock and you're missing almost nothing. Believe me.

Until I one day take over televsion...*shifty eyes*

My parents didn't let me watch much, either. What we did watch, though, was among the best stuff on TV at the time (this would be the 80s). My friends will reminisce about things I never saw, and it doesn't affect me adversely. If anything, I end up glad that I spent my time doing something other than watching TV. :)

Plus, with DVDs of every show in history coming out, I've seen some of those things I missed out on. Maybe they weren't offensive, but they were full of some pretty bad acting and far-from-funny jokes. I think my parents were protecting themselves from bad entertainment more than they were protecting me from immorality. :p
