• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi -- I just joined the forum...I've participated in some other online forums recently and am relieved and pleased to have stumbled onto this forum.

I actually was assigned to spread the word about a writing contest that has a submission period drawing to a close. In the process, I ended up finding a link to this site...perhaps God was speaking to me somehow...

I am a writer in the United States. I've a couple of books published -- but, have been pretty discouraged lately with some of the nastiness I've seen at other writer's sites online.

Before I sign off for the evening, here is the info on the short fiction contest...

The final deadline for the Veronica Tegler Short Fiction Award sponsored by the Georgetown Literary Guild is drawing to a close. The final deadline for submissions is April 6, 2005.

There is no entry fee for the 2005 competition.

Being that the deadline looms, all submissions now must be made via email to:

GeorgetownLit@aol.com

A panel of 10 judges from around the world will review the submitted works in April. The winners will be announced on May 6, 2005. The contest is open to all short fiction genres. While submissions under 5,000 words are preferred, there is not maximum word limit.

The 2005 awards are as follows:

First Place - $1,000

Second Place - $500

Third Place - $250

For more information, please contact Mike Broemmel at the email address set forth above.

Again, I really look forward to spending more time here...On a first visit, this place can seem pretty overwhelming.

Mike

Welcome, Mike! Thanks -- talk about coming in strong! I'm interested in what you've offered. See the "Call for Manuscripts" thread I posted, too.

I think this is appropriate in response to your disinclination toward "nastiness": John Wimber, founder of Vineyard churches, was interviewed at the huge church, where there were worship dancers, anointings, and all sorts of charismatic praise and prayer, and elders roaming to kind of keep control of the sheep. The interviewer asked, "Aren't you afraid that with all this going on every Sunday, your church might attract the, uh, lunatic fringe?" John laughed, and replied, "The lunatic fringe is everywhere! Why would they avoid this place?"

Hope to share more, ConstanceB

Constance --

Thanks for the nice welcome...I will look for the call for manuscript thread after making this post.

I love your quotation regarding the "lunatic fringe." That really puts "things" in perspective for certain. :)

Hope you do submit something to the contest...with this being the first year, we are trying to drum up some more interest.

Mike

Welcome, Mike. I'm also from Florida and we share many interests. This is my first time in the "Writer's Guild" section of the forum, but I usually cruise around in the marriage forums, photography, work & employment, etc. Have a great time - most of the forums are filled with really friendly, caring people. We have a few dolts running around here and there, but it's all good.
