• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello,

I'm a smoker, and I want to give up smoking, because I think its a sin... (I'm new to christianity). I have already given up drinking, its just the smoking that is hard.

Could someone give me some feedback on this topic, whether it is a sin or not? I have been told that the holy spirit will not dwell in an unclean body... what does this mean, etc...

Please, I need help.

Also, to repent, what exactly do you have to do?

I quit smoking a year and a half ago. I smoked for 25 years...they don't call it an addiction for nothing:)
I went on Zyban and the patch and the combination of both and God's help,I finally was able to quit..Praise God.
I'll let someone else answer your spirtual questions, I don't feel qualified to touch on those...but just remember that with God anything is possible!

With God, it is possible to quit. Pray about it. Whenever you want to smoke, think of Christ and His sacrifice for you and everyone. With the power of Christ, all things are possible. I have been clean of marijuana for more than a week now, and I know I will never turn back because of the gracious Lord.

God bless,
Rachel

I smoked for 14 years (started early .as a kid!).....and quit several times. I quit for good when I was convicted that the addiction was taking more place in my life than God..... (but that was my conviction....). So I had been on Wellbutrin (insurance will usually pay for that, not zyban though) for a year and already had cut down alot. So quit altogether on September 22nd 2002! Anyways...... Don't stress yourself out to quit, that won't do any good. When you do...try some of the quit smoking options (patch, wellbutrin/zyban and etc), take one day at a time!, chew gum (big help for me), drink alot of liquids, research on the topic of quit smoking...you will get some good ideas probably. But most of all....Lean on to God!!!!!! Pray , Pray, Pray! Every time I had a craving , well most of the time...I would pray for God to help me through it. Just don't beat yourself up if you cant do it automatically. Just be patient and take one day a time, when you do it! Take Care

I quit 30 yrs ago when I got saved. THE HARDEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE---. There is no easy way.(unless you happen to have THAT physical make up).

You need to get the stuff out of your system before you will be able to have "better" days.

I smoked ---one--- cig a day for 6 months--- thinking weaning would be the answer. I was just as hooked six months later !!! as if I had never weaned at all !!!

I lived for the times I could lite up that cig-- every day--

GOD wants you to do this for more than one reason. I will help you through it if you want to email......

well I'm a Christian and I smoked for yrs and yrs. I recently quit and have been 7 weeks without a smoke now Praise God!!!!! Anyway a couple of my friends prayed with me when I wanted to quit smoking and though it was really hard I managed to make it this far. It won't be easy but I know that you can do it!!!!! Lean on God and pray to Him - that's what I do when tempted, craving, etc. I've found reading bible verses out loud helps too.

There is a lady who goes to my church that gave a testimony one night. She had smoked for years and wanted to quit. She told God that if he wanted her to quit smoking then he was going to have to make her sick of the cigarretes. And you know what? God did, she said that the smell or taste of cigarettes would absloultely make her sick to her stomach. So, you just have to believe in the power of God, and ask him to help you. Be honest with him, he knows the very intent of your heart anyway.

Also to repent, just pray to God, confess your sins to him, and ask that he forgive you. He will, and your sins will be covered by the blood of Christ.
