He may be a decent guy in person. What makes me upset is that so many Catholic embrace so many UN-Catholic positions. The really really sad thing is that, when you consider how many Americans - and American politicians - are Catholic, there would be no abortion in America if every Catholic voted according to Catholic teraching. Thats what really gets me. They just don't get it, and I am totally baffled at how we have come to such a sorry state
This is basically why so many conservatives have left CF - liberalism crept in & took areas right over.
People finally had enough and left. If enough conservatives leave, you leave a majority of non conservatives behind.
And you're right people may be decent, the problem is what they believe and how it changes their dialog here. No doubt there's lots of good people that lean liberal...but it leaves you isolated in spiritual dialog w/ them as the divides widen.
I've continued to beat the drum here at CF that liberalism & conservatism do not get along and won't unite; ecumenism will never work, the 2 are completely conflicting at the core and we see that from them towards us equally. (and I'm fine with that, I expect division and welcome it).
The only way for me to continue friendship w/ my few liberal friends is to completely stay off of serious topics in religion or politics & some ethical ones.
I think it goes back to people's claims - you can claim to be catholic, but it doesn't mean you take Catholicism as seriously as another Catholic, or accept all of the same dogma another does.
Same with Christianity tho; lots claim to know or be of God, but what is the fruit? Many directly work against God's very teachings & principles (even denying His holy Word to us).
I think
Mat. 7:21-23 is the answer here
(not my caps)
21"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
22"Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' 23"And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'
Romans 1 speaks of those who support others sin:
32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.
With that said, I believe that who we pick as candidates who have shared their policies openly and why we pick them can reveal alot about us.
