  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm Curious...

I take notes. When I first started going to church in January of this year, I had lots of questions and that was mostly what my notes were.....questions. I would write them on the back of the bulletin. One of the ladies at church saw that and got me a notebook for me to write in. So, I have a nice book that has all of my notes from each serman that I've heard. I really do enjoy having it in one place, because I've gone back and referenced some things a few times.

Another thing that is nice about my book is that I can write special events that has happened....for example the days that each of my kids asked Jesus to come into their hearts....the day that I was baptized.....or when we had a special speaker/missionary. Kinda like a journal if I really sit here and think about it.

I would recommend note taking or journaling to anyone. :)

Yes, I take notes as different points catch my attention or raise questions as well. Our bulletins usually have an open space for notes, but if not, I write in the margins or wherever I can squeeze it in. When I was unpacking from my move last week, I found one from this summer that I had written a new song on. :)

I take them also, if nothing else, they are good for keeping your attention focused. I will write down the important points, scripture references, and points that make a specific impact on me. It is interesting to look back at them later and see how God ministered to me that day and to have a reminder of what I had learned.

Our whole congregation takes notes!

Each week we have a sermon flyer with the relevant scriptures printed out, (including which bible version was used) and "fill in the blanks" notes. they're hole punched for convenience, color coded according to the sermon series, and they fit into a small 3 ring-notebook that is given out to everyone during the membership class.
I put my name tag on the front cover so it can be returned to me if i ever misplace it.

I have notes from July 2002 on up to this past Sunday, and i often refer back to them. I consider them a valuable resource, and often add additional notes in the margins. Not everyone in our congregation saves their notes, but many do.
