IM apps

I just received an avalanche of IM messages through my archaic, incompetent, completely unreliable old Yahoo IM account operating on Messages because they haven't come through for the past two weeks or thereabouts. 103 messages in a giant whoosh. Plus friends feel a tad bit miffed because they think I ignored them. But I didn't. Their messages took the slow boat from China route to me.

Okay, so I used Yahoo Messenger in elementary and middle school and still keep it because of friends from back in the day I've stayed in touch with over the years via it. Since it's a virtually obsolete now, Yahoo stopped updating the app for Macs so it's no longer working on my laptop.

I mainly use Kik, both from my iPad / iPhone and with BlueStacks on my laptop. Its reliability has been impeccable for me, but there are some people who like to keep it old-school and IM through Yahoo. Does anyone have any suggestions for a Mac app that I could use on all my devices, including my laptop, that would be compatible with Yahoo (and preferably Google Chat and Facebook Chat as well)? I'm hoping to find one that I can use on my laptop. I text all day long and it's nice to just type normally sometimes when it's mega late.

Messages - MOST frustrating because I get all my texts on there perfectly fine, so I'm lulled into it a false sense of competency. But none of the IMs sent via the Yahoo handle in the past week and change came in on time there. I missed out on a friend who was here in LA for one week only and for whatever reason only let me know via IM even though he has my text number and is connected to me on Facebook and Instagram. Why. Why. WHY. I'm mega frustrated now.
