• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi Caty!

So which one of the five "Hells" in the bible are you afraid of going to. The King James bible uses the word "Hell" as a one-size-fits-all word for 5 different things. Here they are:

1. Hades - mythological Greek "underworld," supposedly ruled by the mythological Greek god "Hades," from whom the name of the make-believe "underworld" was borrowed. no torment

2. Sheol - grave - no torment.

3. Tartaros - prison for fallen angels. No people there.

4. Gehenna - Literally: Trash dump just outside of Jerusalem. Spiritually: State of extreme guilt and self-condemnation, where the fire of truth is never quenched and the self-destructive "worm of guilt" dieth not. I think this is where you have put yourself right NOW!

5. Lake of Fire - Place of intense light, truth and reality created by the "fire" of the Holy Spirit. This place was made for the Devil and his angels, not for people. Unbelievers are the ONLY ones who will be there for a time after their promised incorruptible resurrection until they finally "see the light."

So which "Hell" is it, the one you've made for yourself - Gehenna? You can get out very easily. Just stop judging your mistakes with your OWN MIND and let the Judge of all the Earth judge everything. Did you think you could do a better job than the Lord?:) Please relax and let God be God for a change.

Best Blessings,
"Arph"

the only thing that ive been taught about Hell is that if God doesn't forgiven you and you are not washed clean by Jesus's sacrafice then you will burn forever in Hell.

Because the Bible never says that. The only thing the Bible says is unforgivable is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit which has been explained. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is not just thinking/saying something, It is a condition of the heart and if you still have a heart that desires Christ. There is no way you could have committed that sin.

Yeah, it says whosoever speaks a word against the Holy Spirit and then later on in the passage is says He told them that because they were saying that terrible thing (i dont want to type it)

Hi Caty!

Someone taught you a whole load of "organic fertilizer." And why are you believing what someone "taught" you out of unscriptural church tradition instead of what the bible says?

So which "Hell" are you worried about? You've gotta pick at least one, otherwise your worries have no basis.

I think it's "Gehenna." And it's no use worrying about it because you've already put yourself there with your false self-judgment and self-condemnation.

i must not want salvation bad enough or i must not have true repentance or something cause i dont think I'll ever come out of this.

Then throw yourself on the mercy of God, Caty. His mercies never fail. :)

Faith means trusting in advance what will only make sense in reverse.

I'm not sure what you mean??

I fear if i do something like that I'll get completely rejected and I hate it when ever people tell me to go ahead and find out or trying can hurt anything because---if i get rejected it will absolutly kill me.

Caty - I had many of the same struggles you have. I would pray to accept Christ and then after a week or two, I figured that He had left me because I was too sinful. This was a pattern that went on for about 5 years. I would pray to receive Christ every time a Billy Graham Crusade was broadcast on TV or whenever I heard the Gospel shared. I'd try to be a "Good Christian Boy" and not commit anything that I perceived to be a sin. After a few days, I would wear down and go back to living like I did before.

I was told that when I received Christ, I would have peace in my life. When I did not FEEL this peace, I reasoned that I had not been serious enough when I prayed to receive Jesus. I figured Jesus either refused to forgive me and come into my heart or I had chased Him away because I was too sinful and rotten.

One day I decided to pray and ask Jesus into my heart again. I wanted the things you talk about; heaven when I died and a life with God. As I was praying, a voice from deep within me spoke and said, "I've been in your heart since you first asked Me in." That settled it for me. Jesus had always been there. He gave me a spoken word that broke me out of the deadly pattern I had been stuck in.

Now, I'm not saying that an "experience" is what we need to confirm our salvation. The Word of God is what we base our faith and salvation on. I was just so thick-headed that God had to give a little push.

You may be looking for a "FEELING" that will confirm God's forgiveness (just like I did). But we are saved by grace through faith. God has given you the faith you need to be saved. When you ask God to forgive you, He is faithful to do just that. He loves you and is seeking after you diligently. When He said in the Bible that He offers you salvation and forgiveness, He means it. When you ask for His forgiveness, He will give it to you.

My suspicion is that someone important in your life failed to follow through on a promise they made to you or they failed you in some other way. If this is the case, you may be projecting this persons behavior and character on to God. (This is something I have tended to do and it has kept me from getting as free as God desires.) God is perfect and holy. His love is as high as the heavens are above the earth. He has removed our sins as far as the east is from the west.

I hope this helps in some way. I will keep you in prayer.

thank you, i have asked Jesus into my heart multiple times and i really did see a change in my life--i started to recognize sin like i had never done before nad i tried to change myself and i really thought i was doing good for God but I never felt like He was with me or anything, I was very "dumb" about the things in the Bible about slavation--i didnt really understand faith and that Jesus already paid for my sins 2000 years ago, so i started having instrusive thoughts (which i had, had before but i didn't let them affect me cause i didnt know about the unforgivable sin) i just pushed them aside until i googled one time..."is there any sin God will not forgive" and I foudn that scripture. from then on i was terified i had done it or i would commit it everythign i read was a diff. interpretation of it so that why i dont think ill ever know until i die what the real sin is. but then i would get mad at God because I thought about the verses that said He would never leave me or forsake me (i even wrote them down in a journal cause they brought me some comfort) but then I would have a though and I would worry if I was mad at God whenever it happened or something and thats why I worry. cause im afraid i was never saved to begin with, i mean i dont think a saved person would go through this.

Hi Caty!

See if this helps:
========================================================
Job 35:5-8 Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds [which] are higher than thou.
6 If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or [if] thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?
7 If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?
8 Thy wickedness [may hurt] a man as thou [art]; and thy righteousness [may profit] the son of man.

Job 35:5-8 (New Living Translation): Look up into the sky,
and see the clouds high above you.
6 If you sin, how does that affect God?
Even if you sin again and again,
what effect will it have on him?
7 If you are good, is this some great gift to him?
What could you possibly give him?
8 No, your sins affect only people like yourself,
and your good deeds also affect only humans.

Job 35:5-8 (Contemporary English Version): Look up to the heavens
6 and think! Do your sins hurt God?
7 Is any good you may have done at all helpful to him?
8 The evil or good you do only affects other humans.

Job 35:5-8 (The Message): Look up at the sky. Take a long hard look.
See those clouds towering above you?
If you sin, what difference could that make to God?
No matter how much you sin, will it matter to him?
Even if you're good, what would God get out of that?
Do you think he's dependent on your accomplishments?
The only ones who care whether you're good or bad
are your family and friends and neighbors.
God's not dependent on your behavior.

Job 35:5-8 (NIV): Look up at the heavens and see;
gaze at the clouds so high above you.
6 If you sin, how does that affect him?
If your sins are many, what does that do to him?
7 If you are righteous, what do you give to him,
or what does he receive from your hand?
8 Your wickedness affects only a man like yourself,
and your righteousness only the sons of men.

i think i could live by faith but im afraid to believe that im forgiven if im really not.

but you are forgiven. Look at this way. If you are forgiven (which you are) and you live by faith, then you've gained everything. If you aren't forgiven (which is impossible if you have accepted Christ), and you live by faith and believe that you are forgiven, guess what? you won't be losing anything, because it won't matter. Logically, your best bet is to live by faith in Jesus Christ. hOPE THAT DOESN'T CONFOUND THE ISSUE.

So what you are saying is is that for some of us salvation is really a crap shoot
a gamble ..well i have to say thats all well and good if you dont fear that you have committed the unpardonable sin since it really wont matter would you be willing to trade places with us in hell if we loose ...I didnt think so ...

If its a gamble i dont want it ..

We each are given a choice and it is our individual decision what to do with that choice. If you feel like fear is the way to go then that is your choice and I think everyone here respects that as being so. I am inclined to disagree though. Faith though is not something you can know for a fact, otherwise it is not faith.

It's like sitting in a chair...if you believe the chair is going to break when you sit down in it, then due to that anticipation, you are not going to put your whole weight in the chair. Whereas if you have genuine faith that the chair is sturdy enough to hold you, you won't hesitate, you will just sit down in the chair, placing all of your weight in it without the feeling of anxiety.

If you still have anxiety then you need to practice sitting down and putting your full weight in the chair so it can sink in that it is not going to break when you sit down in it.
