Hello!
I'm a 17 year old student and i've recently started to mentor a 14 year old boy who i've been told has asperger's syndrome. I can recognise something that differentiates him from the rest of his peers and I know that he gets a hard time from some of the other boys for it.
I have had one or two meetings with him, both of which he didn't talk to me or confide in me much even though I know he has difficulty, though obviously not expecting this so soon!
I'm meant to be there for hiim, to talk to, to help with work, to be a support and to listen.
I 've been doing some research but I really need some help as to how to handle the situations he faces, how to reach out to him so he feels like he can talk to me, and how to talk to him too, as it might take something extra from me to help him communicate more.
If anyone has an asperger's son, or friend, or just some advice, I would be really, really grateful.
Thank you very much
Jess xx
