• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My illness has been a blessing at times . It has let me see the best in people and share in their hurts and pains . It has most of all drawn me closer to God . When you are so down there is nothing like being able to call on the name of God .

Years ago me and a friend who is paranoid schizophrenic were talking about how there is "something" spiritual about mental illness and I'm not talking demonic either. We couldn't put our finger on it but we know there's "somthing" and that "something" is NOT a bad thing. I think those of us who are Saved are more attuned to it though...

absolutely, guys :3
i really hear what you're saying, and i for one appreciate the fellowship of it all....
part of the gospel is being really real and vulnerable with one another and admitting that we are what we are is amazingly liberating. i know that i've met some really amazing people that have been deemed 'ill'.

In AA, they have the twelve promises.

If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through.
1) We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness.
2) We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.
3) We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace.
4) No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others.
5) That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear.
6) We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows.
7) Self-seeking will slip away.
8) Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.
9) Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us.
10) We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us.
11) We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.
Are these extravagant promises? We think not.
They are being fulfilled among us-sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly.
They will always materialize if we work for them.

The reason there are promises is that if we are reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, and we are totally honest with Him about everything and if we surrender our lives to Him, then these things come to pass. It may take awhile, but they do come to pass.

I'm not perfect and definitely far from "normal" and I have weaknesses that drive me to seek God. That being driven has really been a blessing and in a lot of ways I see/believe that I am more blessed than a lot of other Christians who seem to have a blase life.

In fact, I think that if a lot of Christians had to go through what I've been through they probably would have given up. So it's been a true blessing!

I can relate to that. I'm a Christian and recovering Alky with Bi-Polar. I believe everything played in to bring me to my knees and surrender to Christ. I abide in Him. Best place I could have imagined being in or have ever obtained, in my own strength and abilities. I do the foot work and He continues to work the miracle which is my new life in Christ daily. Thanks everyone for posting - He works through you people, loving us into wellness.(that's not "normal" - that's a miracle)

I understand. God used the bipolar hypo manic high to get me thru a meth addiction.......It feels great but you often crash with no intervention. I just posted in some other forum saying Bipolar a blessing? And I got a lot of half glass empty people who hate what the disorder has done to them. But I and others where optimistic like believing that I had a spiritual experience rather then a manic episode that lasted two years.

I posted this passage to the wrong thread earlier so I'll repost it here. Read this everyone and hide it in your heart for the future bad spots.

1 Corinthians 1:23-29 AMP
23 We preach Christ (the Messiah) crucified, [preaching which] to the Jews is a scandal and an offensive stumbling block [that springs a snare or trap], and to the Gentiles it is absurd and utterly unphilosophical nonsense.
24 But to those who are called, whether Jew or Greek (Gentile), Christ [is] the Power of God and the Wisdom of God.
25 [This is] because the foolish thing [that has its source in] God is wiser than men, and the weak thing [that springs] from God is stronger than men.
26 For [simply] consider your own call, brethren; not many [of you were considered to be] wise according to human estimates and standards, not many influential and powerful, not many of high and noble birth.
27 [No] for God selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is foolish to put the wise to shame, and what the world calls weak to put the strong to shame.
28 And God also selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is lowborn and insignificant and branded and treated with contempt, even the things that are nothing, that He might depose and bring to nothing the things that are,
29 So that no mortal man should [have pretense for glorying and] boast in the presence of God.
