So what toys, dolls/action figures, games, etc do you remember having and enjoying?

Because we grew up during an interesting time: Were you allowed to play with toys of the other sex?

And did you/do you like stuffed animals? Any specific type?

Love these questions!!!

What I didn't have was Barbies - my mom hated her (thought she was a hussy;)). I did have a soft bodied baby doll (Thumbelina) that I adored, I kept her until she literally fell apart.

Games - you could always find someone willing to play Monopoly, Clue or Scrabble at my house. We also did a lot of jigsaw puzzles.

As far as dolls of the opposite sex - I don't remember too many boy dolls other than GI Joe or Ken (who fell into the no Barbie rule). I had a stuffed clown - he was a boy.

Stuffed animals - Koala bears (love them). My high school boyfriend gave me a stuffed ocelot that I kept for years - my kids played with it too. Unfortunately my husband went on a cleaning frenzy a few years ago and that was a casualty of his rampage (foolish man, he threw out all the "worn" toys and kept the immaculate ones. I had to point out to him that they were immaculate because no one wanted to play with them).
I still have some stuffed animals - a couple of nice teddy bears (a boyd's bear and a vermont teddy bear) as well as a stuffed otter and baby seal that sit on my fireplace hearth.

Your question about stuffed animals brings up a funny memory - my youngest sister loved stuffed animals and had to have them all in her bed at night. In all seriousness, we couldn't find Emily in the bed she was so surrounded by her animals - only her eyes showed. I think Steven Spielburg must have seen her sleeping and incorporated that idea into ET (when they hid him in the closet with all the stuffed animals).

If you could go forward in time or backwards in time - which would you choose and why?

I have no real desire to go forward at all - I have a feeling that the continuing decay of society :)eek: )would only depress me. One day at a time is sufficient for me.

As far as back in time there are a few eras that really interest me - the early days of our country, the expansion of the US during the mid to late 1800's. I don't remember exactly what they call it - but Europe when they were growing as far as knowledge and arts (I think the Renaissance, but am not 100% certain) are concerned. However, if the truth be told, I wouldn't want to live in those times - I'm too spoiled by things like indoor toilets and daily showers. A once yearly bath just doesn't sound at all appealing to me (ugggg  ).

you sound like a good cook; do you consider yourself a good cook? if so what are some of your favorite recipes?

I like to cook - wish I had more time for it, but long hours @ work tend to make me a little lazy. I think I'm pretty good - haven't poisoned anyone yet and generally get compliments.

Some of my favorites:
Chicken, black bean and corn enchiladas
I make a really good ham
Chicken and spaetzle
grilled salmon (simple but yummy)
I love to make tossed salads - with fancy fixings (dried cherries or cranberries, sliced granny smith apples, toasted almonds or soy beans, garbanzo beans, red onions, feta or blue cheese are just a few of the things I like to add)
Another simple dish that I love - garlic mashed potatoes

you sound like a wonderful cook! i used to love to cook - but now that it is just me i've kinda lost heart with it and tend to get real lazy and fix really simple things. If i fix anything at all :0).

Do you enjoy cooking for others? Do you have friends and family over often?

I love to cook (and wish I had more time for it). I don't have friends and family over as often as I should - but I love cooking for others.

I am in the "30 minute meals with Rachel Ray" "semi-homemade with Sandra Lee" mode of cooking these days. Not that there's anything wrong with that - still tastes good.

So are you willing to share your chicken, black bean and corn enchilada receipe? I also love making fancy salads with lots of yummy stuff in them. For a long time that was all I could do, my mom almost never cooked. lol

I'll always share recipes - one of my favorite things.

You inspired me to start a new thread, so. . . . . .

Hope this thread goes over well with folks. I'm betting we'll get a lot of good ideas.

What do you appreciate the most about God?

Like the song says - His most amazing grace. That He should bless and save me, a terrible sinner, that I should be able to spend eternity in His presence. How great is our God!
