question: would classic literature such as some dickens novels and other stuff have any success in todays market?

i watched a movie adaptation of one of these books recently and afterward wondered what in the world i had just got done viewing.

Two versions of Great Expectations are coming out this year. The one with Gillian Anderson was done by the BBC, and the other has Helena Bonham Carter and is being released in November I think. It remains to be seen his the film will do in theatres. And there is obviously a market because they keep remaking them.

The thing with film versions is that they are the director's/screen play writer's/etc interpretation of the original text. If you approach these things thinking this is someone else's retelling of the story you can overlook some of the discrepencies.

I love BBC and almost always love their versions of such stories, including their own original movies. But, the Gillian Anderson (whom I do love) version of 'Great Expectations' that just aired was awful I thought. I enjoyed the boy who played 'Pip' when he's young, but that was about it. My favorite version so far is still the black and white classic with John Mills.
