  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

. . .the bible was the word of god, then shouldn't you do all the things he commands? Killing people who follow another God/s for example.
If God has the power to send you to either eternal Hell or Heaven. . .wouldn't be stupid not to do as he commands?

Can you give some examples of some general commands to murder that I need to follow? I've been reading the Bible for years and have never come across it. Specifically scripture tells me not to murder. Killing is sanctioned only in specific circumstances (wars capital punishment, etc), but never as an evangelistic tool. You'll need to cite your references.

If you stand by and watch another man rape and murder an innocent child or person, that child or person's blood is on your head as a witness to injustice. You are bound by justice to act according to the situation and your abilities to help a brother or sister that has the God given right to life. The Bible says to not murder if the meaning of the Hebrew word is examined closely in the commandment. We have brains to think these things out ahead of time so we can be prepared to act with wisdom and righteousness before God. We bare that responsibility.

I presume you have in mind some of the Old Testament commands for which violation of the law is punishable by death.

Here's the thing: Christians are not under the law, but under grace. We do not follow the O.T. law, and I can absolutely assure you that nothing in the New Testament tells us to kill anyone, for any reason. Indeed, Jesus commanded us to lay down our lives for our neighbors, and then made it clear that the term "neighbor" includes everyone, even those who most despise you.

There are specific instances in which the OT Israelites were called upon by God to kill the inhabitants of certain places. However, those are not binding in any other (or similar) situation. Can you give another place where killing is commanded in Christian Scripture?

God's Word, the Bible, teaches that death is both an inevitable "natural" as well as "judicial" consequence of sin (Gen.2:16-17; Eze.18:20-23; Gal.6:7-8). We cannot escape from the natural results of our sins, but because God loves every person on earth with an unconditional and unfathomable love, He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the legal/judicial price for our sins' resultant guilt and penalty (i.e., eternal separation from God) by shedding His sinless blood on the Cross on behalf of anyone who will, by faith in Who He is and in His integrity to do what He has promised, receive Christ as their own personal Substitute/Savior for their sins' penalty (Jn.3:16).

God does not command (or even ask) Christians to kill nonbelievers, but rather to be His ambassadors of love, to share with lost souls the good news of salvation/redemption's availabilty to them because of what Christ has done (2 Cor.5:17-21). Christ was killed in our place, so that we might live and become guiltless when weighed on God's scales of justice! All praise to Jesus Christ!

I think you are confusing the Bible with the koran.

God does not command me to kill people whom follow other Gods. God commands me to love all men and give the joyful message of the Gospel so that all men can accept Jesus as their Redeemer.

Okay so someone mentioned about the OT is saying one thing and the NT says another...they are both in my bible so is it conterdicting itself now??? did someone "change" the book of life???
No, there are specific instances under which God commanded Israel to kill certain people groups. They were very situation-specific and have no bearing on us now. The NT simply does not speak to harming unbelievers, but says to show them kindness and love hoping to bring them to Christ.

JCBunny,

Prior to Christ, although 'Grace' 'always' saved us according to scriptures...the perfect 'sacrafice' and atonement from sin was not fulfilled. Christ fulfilled this by way of His death so that we might be forgiven.

The scriptures tell us there is a season for everything (to mourn, to cry, etc.). So is it with God Who designs all in His perfect timing.

In all this, though, God does not change and just as it was yesterday -- so is it as today.

God loves and cares about all, but His children are gathered like a Hen gathers baby chicks (per scripture).

Many do and will die because they so choose to. The same is true of yesterday, however, there is no necessity for us as God's Children to bring about death to those who worship false gods today.

Today the Word is spreading and far reaching to all the nations. We have inherited freedoms from enslavement and the inability to worship God in most cases (by the Grace of God alone and not mankind).

But moreso, God's children have eyes that are wider opened through Christ.

The Word now is written in our hearts.

I hope this too might answer Arafat's questions as well sufficiently.

God Bless. :)

What you are saying makes sense in principle. If the Bible is the Word of God, then it would be stupid, (unwise!) to not do as He commanded. Why not obey a Being of infinite power and knowledge? How could He be either erroneous or successfully resisted? If He is infallibly correct, (and He is,) then His revelation must also be infallible. If the revelation is infallible, then the entire human race did fall both spiritually and morally in Adam the prototype just as that revelation declares in Genesis. If the Genesis record is then true, then Adam and his race had to die in some way or another there in the Garden of Eden just as God forewarned Adam that he would die. If Adam did not die physically or consciously in Eden, then the only other way in which he could have died is spiritually. If Adam died in his spirit, then it is not surprising that we, his descendents, are naturally dead to spiritual perception. This is why so very many people are blind to the Word of God. If the Lord does not open those spiritually blinded eyes, it is all we could ever expect.
