If you were to have your own radio station, what kind of station would you have? What kind of stuff would you play?

For myself, I'd have a station devoted to Rush. I'd play their studio album songs, their live songs, past interviews, etc.

that's one thing I love about JANGO- I have 6-7 stations that vary w/my usual moods.

1) Classic Rock (Stones, Black Crowes, Stevie Nicks mixed w/some Tina Turner etc)

2) Kid Rock (The LACS, etc)

3) Keith Richards (anybody that knows me-knew that was coming)

4) The Blues (Muddy Waters, Freddie King even Ray Wile Hubbard)

5) Country (Southern Rock-Shooter Jennings, Hank 3 & Skynard)

6) Pop (Clapton, Segar, Tom Petty and some one song wonders I like)

7) Smooth (Rita Coolidge, David Lanz, etc)

for the newer stuff I just reserve that for my car when I want to listen to something different than my own collection. I'm pretty spread out for an ole gal set in her ways :)

Very interesting question. Off the top of my head, if it were mine to program, I would probably go with something like this:

Mon. through Fri. - "Deep Tracks" style classic rock - album tracks and rare/previously unreleased tracks from late 60s through early 80s rock groups. No "Stairway", no "Free Bird".

Saturday - More Deep Tracks until 6:00 PM or so, then dance oriented tracks - everything from disco to 80s new wave to techno.

Sunday - Modern praise & worship until noon, then Christian alternative until 8:00 PM. From 8:00 until midnight - jazz (Miles, Coltrane, Armstrong - not Kenny G.).

This is lots of fun to think about. Thanks for the thread!

I would play mostly folk and ambient through the fall and winter, with some days being devoted to full album plays with a bio on the artist and album, repeated throughout the day with multiple albums.

Then in the more spring and summer months I would devote the station to independent rock groups, and post-rock.

Overall there'd be seasonal benefits, but not altogether devoted to those, but with some overlapping. Just more influenced during the different seasons.
