  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you cannot believe the genesis account....

So, according to your interpretation of the passage, the devil is the serpent. So, also according to your interpretation, the devil has no legs and eats dust.

For crying out loud. I've already explained this... Oh well, I'll do it one more time.

The serpent is a SYMBOLIC representation OF SATAN. Satan is NOT an actual SNAKE.

Stripping it's legs and making it 'eat the dust' for the rest of his days represents Satan being bound to Earth. Taking the 'serpents' legs shows that Satan cannot move throughout God's kingdom as he used to and the dust represents Earth.

You do if you want to honestly stick to the claim you are taking the bible literally and don't trust anything else.
So you are right, you don't have to show me anything but by not showing me anything the idea that you don't add stuff to the bible goes down the drain.
your choice.

and it had nothing to do with my question.

You said that the snake could talk if it was being used by god or satan or someone else. So I asked you to show me where in genesis is claims the snake was being used by someone?

You have not shown me this, yet. If you can't show me where it says in genesis that the snake was being used by someone, then we must assume that the snake was talking under its own power. Since god never took away the snakes speaking power, then we should think that snakes of today can talk.

Or do you take the bible "literally" but not "literally"?

Simple. Death is not the "evil" you make it out to be. Death is simply part of life. You are born and the second law of thermodynamics guarantees that you will die sometime.
then why is death called an enemy? I'm not sure where, but in the New Testament it is written, "The last enemy to be destroyed will be death." The enemy of spiritual death has already been destroyed, by your defenition: Christians can have God in their hearts. Also, all those animals that (supposedly) died before Adam certainly went through pain, suffering, and fear--for no reason, apparently.
There's nothing in the text to support the Fundamentalist theory that all of creation was changed.
What about the part where God says that Adam will live by the sweat of his brow, and htat thistles will infest the ground to hold it against him? Or that Eve will have pain childbirth? That sounds like a magor change to me.

So are you looking for a snake and a donkey that talks in King James English? There are lots of people today that will tell you that they talk to their pets. I do not think the situation here is very much different from that.

I know that I either have a active imagination, or I communiate with the animals and birds from time to time. I know I was working on the building the other day around where a bird has it's nest and she was sitting on a wire squawking away at me, telling me what she thought about the whole situation.

Physically God was in heaven, but let's not forget that God is omnipresent. He was as much on the earthas Satan was.
God is also omnipotent. Nothing happens against his will. I could tell the kid I babysit for that the remote is in his power, but if he decides to turn to MTV, I'm going to use my veto rights. His powers extend only as far as I let them. My stipulation is, "Don't watch gyrating bodies." God's stipulation was, "Don't hurt/kill Job." And God was as able to prevent Satan from killing Job as I am to keep the kid from watching MTV.
Of course, Satan then wins the bet, because Job begins cursing God, just as Satan predicted!
Does he? I remember Job cursing hte day he was born, complaining to God as to why he even brought him into the world, and expressing anger at his painful trial. But when his wife told him, "Curse God and die," Job asked, "Are we to accept the good from God's hand, and not the bad as well?"

If God and Satan are such good pals, then why is God sending Satan to become an eternal flame? That sounds like a sort of mean trick to pull on an old betting buddy.
