If we all came from your Adam and Eve, why do we not all have the same god?

Chris,

The Bible is very clear in stating that there is One True God. The problem is that many are stubborn and unwilling to commit to him. They would rather worship gods that fit their own ideas. That is why many Christian churches are in error today. They try to mold the Word to fit their desires rather than molding themselves to meet God's.

Definatly agree. This is the responce I gave:

Since Adam and Eve we have all had the free will to choose to beleive in God or not. Because of the hunger inside of us to find God (spiritual desire), man created their own false Gods.

With every genuine article, there is always a fake. Leather jackets, watches etc..

Many Gods are more convenient for people. Since humans developed the Gods they had the control over that particular God's requirements.

Many people here worship football. It takes over their lives, they go the match 'religiously' each week.

God in some people's lives may also come in the form of Heroin. Its not quite so funny then.

Hope that sounds OK.

He came back with:

If you know that there is but one god, Adam & Eve tell their kids, who tell theirs so on so forth, then if some one comes up with a false god, everybody else would know that it was a false god and then ignore them. The same way christians ignore all other religious gods.
This would have passed on down through the generations so that the truth would have been passed on. So people would know that A: there is only one god B: all other gods are false.
Christianity would have shown up tens of thousands of years ago not just in the last 2000 odd.
As I have been informed recently the old testament is just a collection of stories to explain mans existance. No truth in them, just stories. So man had some idea of where he came from.
What about my other question?

Ha, ha! How many kids obey their parents? People are born with a nature to worship themselves as God.....it is called egotism or selfishness. It doesn't matter what parents do, the child has to decide on whom he will serve - self or God. Cain slew his brother, and I'm sure his parents didn't coach him to kill Abel.

Did Cain listen to his parents and the word of God (remember Cain spoke directly with God)? Did his parents disobey God and leave us cursed with a sin nature? Our sin nature leads us away from God. It leads to the creation of idols that are easier to obey than God.

God created the law that his people might have some firm guidelines for living a righteous life. His people could not follow them for long. Once in a while someone would rise up to bring his people back. When that one died his people slipped back into sinful ways.

I thank God for Jesus and Grace, that we might live!

It's been over a decade since I read it but you might look at the works of Josephus who recorded early history including the story of society turning away from God.

I think it's important to remember the influence of demons in this subject. I remember reading an article by a missionary to a pagan area and the missionary said as different cultures encountered trouble (drought, flooding, plague, etc.) demons offered their help (really offered to stop causing the problems but called it protection) in exchange for people's devotion. People wanted a god they could see (a complaint the Israelites made in the OT) so making idols seemed natural.

Let's see, Christian, Hebrew, Muslim, Mormon and J.W's all believe in one God- in fact the same God of scripture. Hindu's believe in one supreme God , with various demi-gods or devas, although not a Hebrew scripture based God. Buddhist's don't believe in a supreme being, so they don't count as having a false god. So where are all the so-called "other" god's?

Muslims, Jews, Mormons and J.W.'s don't all accept Christ as the Son of God or that He was sinless, died and arose from the dead. So they don't believe in the same God. "Anyone who rejects Me, rejects My Father."

Buddhists put their philososophies before anything esle in their lives, they strive for "spiritual oneness" with theirselves and the universe. Their goal for spiritual oneness comes from a lifetime of knowing and practicing Buddha's teachings, so you really could call Buddha their god, because he teaches things that are not from Jesus Christ our Saviour...they put Buddha's teachings before him, in turn making him a false idol. It doesn't matter if they don't believe in a supreme being. Buddha in all his teachings does not confirm nor deny there being a supreme God. I know that's a loaded statement, and I'm not looking to debate this. I'm just trying to break it down for ya better. Molly's completely right too...Christians put false gods before Christ as well, so we're all guilty of this sin. It's our sinful and rebellious nature...it makes me realize how much we really do need a Saviour. :)

sr. sholls,
You are correct.
The original question, "why do we not all have the same God?" cannot be answered by how we all worship that God. I suppose that's the confusion here, and the question should more correctly be stated "Why do we not all have the same religion?" (Which I believe is what he's really asking.)

Actually she is incorrect. Mormons do believe that Jesus died for there sins. They are not some cult, they do not believe that Joseph Smith is God incarnate(as many people seem to believe). I challenge you to find Mormon doctrine and you tell me where it says that they believe that Jesus didn't die for there sins. I am not Mormon but I find it rather humerous that people who don't know a thing about Mormons believe that....they get the name Mormon from there belief that the Book of Mormon is another form of testimony to the life of Jesus Christ. if you look at there official name, its The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.....not the Church of Joseph Smith of Latter Day Saints, not The Church of Kermit the Frog of Latter Day Saints....the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints. They believe in the ONE TRUE GOD and HIS Son Jesus Christ.

Mormonism teaches that the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross itself (and receiving it by faith) is not sufficient to bring forgiveness of sins. It teaches that the forgiveness of sins is obtained though a cooperative effort with God; that is, we must be good and follow the laws and ordinances of the Mormon church in order to obtain forgiveness. Consider James Talmage, a very important Mormon figure who said, "The sectarian dogma of justification by faith alone has exercised an influence for evil" (Articles, p. 432), and "Hence the justice of the scriptural doctrine that salvation comes to the individual only through obedience" (Articles, p. 81). This contradicts the biblical doctrine of the forgiveness of sins by grace through faith (Rom. 5:1; 6:23; Eph. 2:8-9) and the doctrine that works are not part of our salvation but a result of them (Rom. 4:5, James 2:14-18).

Mormon theology teaches that god used to be a man on another planet, that he became a god by following the laws and ordinances of that god on that world, and that he brought one of his wives to this world with whom he produces spirit children who then inhabit human bodies at birth. The first spirit child to be born was Jesus. Second was Satan, and then we all followed. The Jesus of Mormonism is definitely not the same Jesus of the Bible. Therefore, faith in the Mormon Jesus, is faith misplaced because the Mormon Jesus doesn't exist. Only the name is the same.
