  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think there's plenty of songs out there that are classed as secular that have spiritual meanings in them. I think Gods word is in everyone's heart but we can use and turn to other things to find God and lose the way. But for many they are trying to get in touch with God and dont realize what they are looking for. They may call it other things but it can still speak about God and His love and creation.

I hear many songs and I wonder where the person was at when they wrote it. They may have come to a point in their life and were looking for something. They maybe singing about God but just dont mention His name. I write songs and many dont mention God or anything along those lines. But they mention life's struggles or that we are all looking for something and need to find the answers. Or even about the teachings of Jesus which is to forgive and love others. You can sing about these things and people know that it is saying something about God without actually mentioning anything religious.

I like stuff like Dylan and Rodriguez and the folk stuff of the 60s. Many of those artists became spoke persons for a generation about love and peace and life. Even Johnny Cash had some great songs. Some of these artists actually went on to become Christians and continued to play music. I know Johnny Cash did and he had some great Gospels songs.
