I work at a Baptist Church and I will ask Pastor in the morning about his view on this. It would be interesting. I will repost when I get an answer from him.

Why would you do that knowing that it would be offensive? Likely, the pastor would ask to speak to you privately and explain that you are welcome in the service, but disruptions would not be allowed.

Well, I go to an American Baptist Church, which tends to be a little more liberal than the SBC & Independents, but even there if you came with all that, and you're welcome to come, I'd have to hold off the crowd while you made a hasty exit...

I'll say that I've taken the Catholic Study Bible and an RSV to church/Wed night bible study/SS class and didn't get beat up over it.

I've spoken up in SS class about not being a pre-mil/pre-tribber, though I didn't "denounce" it, because hey, they may be right. No prob, though most disagreed with me.

Also in SS class we were going over the passage in (I think) Corinthians about the gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble being burned up and I mentioned it was a passage the RCC believed referenced purgatory, and people were like "Oh, really?" but I wasn't stoned over it.

Never prayed the rosary anywhere, though carried one in my pocket for a year. Funny, most Baptist churches I've been in generally are pretty quiet during praying...guess when I've gone to mass rosaries are generally prayed before the mass begins, so if ya wanted to pray a rosary before the service that'd be ok...as long as it's not something you're doing to just attract attention.

All that to say, why would ya wanna do it? I've gone to mass with my "baptist" Scofield Bible and protestant/anabaptist baggage only to be treated with respect...but then I went not trying to disprove or act as though I knew something they didn't. If you are interested in atttending a Baptist service, then go as you would have others go to your service...and who knows what ya might learn...

Well, my church is quite friendly, so I don't think anything bad would happen. Some people would probably ask you about why you are praying the rosary and talking about purgatory, and we'd likely explain our views to you. We've got nothing against the Apocrypha (in fact I have a copy of the King James Apocrypha on my bookshelf); we just don't believe that it is inspired. So we might have an interesting discussion with you on the Biblical canon as well.

As for the pre-trib rapture, most people in my church do not believe in it. My pastor personally believes that it is a somewhat dangerous doctrine, in fact. So we'd have no problem there.

You'd get some respectful questioning about your actions and beliefs, emphasis on the respectful. You could expect to be asked for Scriptural support for purgatory and the apocrypha (my pastor loves to discuss the canon). Same goes for the Hail Mary - but then again, we rarely recite the Lord's Prayer as it is an example of how to pray, not the be all and end all of prayers.

BTW - my church is pretty much amil, so we likely wouldn't have much discussion about the pre-trib rapture.

My church is pretty small - less than 50 members. We have multiple members with Roman Catholic background so we discuss the doctrinal issues and differences anyway - and I think fairly. Our primary concern Soli Deo Gloria - we achieve that through proper worship of God, through prayer and the teaching of His Word.

What would happen and what should happen are perhaps two different things. Services should be orderly and all should show respect. There are times for discusions of areas where we disagree on things. Few at my church agree with my reformed position on the doctrines of grace, but they have not booted me for disagreeing.

You would probably be viewed as a catholic and asked not to share your doctrines. Some may ask you to support your doctrines from Scripture. Some churches would be nice about it, some would not be.

I don't know when the rosary would be prayed, but during the service we have prayer by the pastor or deacons. During prayer meeting, each person has opportunity to pray for each other's needs of and give praise to God for answers to prayer.

As for Bible reading, the pastor uses the Bible as the basis of his message and we are encouraged to read the Bible on our own daily. In fact we are having a challenge right now to read the Bible daily. The pastor does not tell us where to read.

Purgatory and denouncing would bring in a discussion with the pastor. My pastor comes from a Catholic background, so he would be able to discuss these things with you.

I don't see anyone in my church family doing anything more than having discussions with you though.

Spell it right! It is "B-A-P-T-I-S-T" ... I doubt you would appreciate it if I spelled your denomination with a "K" at the beginning, or an "A" in the middle.

As to what I would do, I'd be grateful for your presence and take the opportunity to share our worship style with you. I've attended Mass with friends, and I certainly would not criticize the service or their faith. I sincerely hope you wouldn't be so crass as to criticize mine.

When I moved cities, I joined a Mother's Group that was run by the local Baptist Church. I went to Bible Study on a regular basis with these women, and became good friends. I used my Catholic Bible for Bible Study, and rarely had problems. I held to my views but refused to engage in arguments about them, and I respected the views of my friends. I politely listened to those who wished to convert me, but was not interested in converting. I discussed matters with the Pastors, attended Services, and my children attended Youth Group there. I had very few problems as I treated my friends and their faith choice with the respect they deserved and I found it a very positive experience.

I think it was taken a little tongue-in-cheek on the Catholic board.

I have only been in a Catholic church (during any kind of service) once in my life and then it was for a funeral.
And I have had Baptists witness to me, in my own church. It is what we do!
